Richard Charles Rodgers was an American composer who worked primarily in musical theater. With 43 Broadway musicals and over 900 songs to his credit,Rodgers was one of the most well-known American composers of the 20th century,and his compositions had a significant influence on popular music.
Rodgers and Hart were an American songwriting partnership between composer Richard Rodgers (1902–1979) and the lyricist Lorenz Hart (1895–1943). They worked together on 28 stage musicals and more than 500 songs from 1919 until Hart's death in 1943.

At the Opera House is a 1958 live album by Ella Fitzgerald. The album presents a recording of the 1957 Jazz at the Philharmonic Concerts. This series of live jazz concerts was devised by Fitzgerald's manager Norman Granz;they ran from 1944 to 1983. Featured on this occasion,in 1957,are Fitzgerald and the leading jazz players of the day in an onstage jam session. The first half of the 1990 CD edition includes a performance that was recorded on September 29,1957,at the Chicago Opera House,whilst the second half highlights the concert recorded on October 7,1957,at the Shrine Auditorium,in Los Angeles. The original LP obviously included only the mono tracks (#10-18).

The title character,Joey Evans,is a manipulative small-time nightclub performer whose ambitions lead him into an affair with the wealthy,middle-aged and married Vera Simpson. It includes two songs that have become standards:"I Could Write a Book" and "Bewitched,Bothered and Bewildered".

The album is wholly composed of covers of show tunes written by the songwriting duo of Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart. The album was the final album released before The Supremes' name was changed to "Diana Ross &the Supremes," and member Florence Ballard was replaced by Cindy Birdsong.

She was noted for performances with Tommy Dorsey (1939),Leo Reisman (1940–41),Artie Shaw (1940),Nat King Cole (1941–44),Jerry Wald (1942–43) and Hoagy Carmichael (1945). With Dorsey she helped popularize the song "I Concentrate On You",and with Reisman she recorded the song "Bewitched,Bothered and Bewildered" for Pal Joey.
