Bhamal is a census town in Nirsa CD block in Dhanbad Sadar subdivision of Dhanbad district in the Indian state of Jharkhand.

Nirsa is a community development block that forms an administrative division in Dhanbad Sadar subdivision of Dhanbad district, Jharkhand state, India.

In India a community development block is a rural area administratively earmarked for development. The area is administered by a Block Development Officer, supported by several technical specialists and village level workers. A community development block covers several gram panchayats, local administrative unit at the village level.

Overview

The region shown in the map is a part of the undulating uplands bustling with coalmines. While the Damodar flows along the southern boundary, the Barakar flows along the eastern boundary. Both the rivers form the boundary with West Bengal. Panchet Dam and Maithon Dam, along with their reservoirs, are prominently visible in the map. The entire area is covered in Nirsa (community development block). In Nirsa CD block 69% of the population live in rural areas and 39% live in urban areas. The official website of the district has announced the formation of two new CD blocks – Egarkund and Kaliasole, possibly carved out of Nirsa CD block. As of July 2019, there is no further information about the new CD blocks. BCCL operates Chanch/ Victoria Area partially within the region shown in the map. ECL operates Mugma Area fully within the region shown in the map.^[1]^[2]^[3]

Damodar River is a river flowing across the Indian states of Jharkhand and West Bengal. Rich in mineral resources, the valley is home to large-scale mining and industrial activity. Earlier known as the Sorrow of Bengal because of its ravaging floods in the plains of West Bengal, the Damodar and its tributaries have been somewhat tamed with the construction of several dams. It is the most polluted river of India.

The Barakar River is the main tributary of the Damodar River in eastern India. Originating near Padma in Hazaribagh district of Jharkhand it flows for 225 kilometres (140 mi) across the northern part of the Chota Nagpur Plateau, mostly in a west to east direction, before joining the Damodar near Dishergarh in Asansol, Bardhaman district of West Bengal. It has a catchment area of 6,159 square kilometres (2,378 sq mi). The main tributaries, Barsoti and Usri, flow in from the south and north respectively. Apart from the two main tributaries some fifteen medium or small streams join it.

Demographics

As per the 2011 Census of India, Bhamal had a total population of 4,818 of which 2,335 (53%) were males and 2,283 (47%) were females. Population below 6 years was 639. The total number of literates in Bhamal was 3,378 (80.83% of the population over 6 years). ^[4]

The 15th Indian Census was conducted in two phases, house listing and population enumeration. House listing phase began on 1 April 2010 and involved collection of information about all buildings. Information for National Population Register(NPR)was also collected in the first phase, which will be used to issue a 12-digit unique identification number to all registered Indian residents by Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). The second population enumeration phase was conducted between 9 and 28 February 2011. Census has been conducted in India since 1872 and 2011 marks the first time biometric information was collected. According to the provisional reports released on 31 March 2011, the Indian population increased to 1.21 billion with a decadal growth of 17.70%. Adult literacy rate increased to 74.04% with a decadal growth of 9.21%. The motto of the census was 'Our Census, Our future'.

Infrastructure

Bhamal has an area of 0.87 km². It is 26 km from the district headquarters Dhanbad. There is a railway station at Kumardubi 13 km away. Buses are available at Nirsa 2.5 km away. It has 6 km roads and both covered and open drains. The two major sources of protected water supply are tap water from treated sources and uncovered wells. There are 830 domestic electric connections. Amongst the educational facilities, it has 2 primary schools, 3 middle schools, 2 secondary schools and 1 senior secondary school. There is a general degree college at Maithon 16 km away. Amongst the recreational facilities, it has 1 auditorium/ community hall. It had the branches of 2 nationalised banks, 1 cooperative bank, 1 agricultural credit society and 1 non-agricultural credit society.^[5]

Kumardhubi is an inhabited place in the Dhanbad district of Jharkhand state, India.

Maithon is a census town in Nirsa CD Block in Dhanbad Sadar subdivision of Dhanbad district in the Indian state of Jharkhand. It is situated on the banks of river Barakar

Education

Koylanchal Sanjay Gandhi Memorial (KSGM) College was established at Nirsa in 1980. Affiliated with the Binod Bihari Mahto Koylanchal University, it offers honours and pass courses in arts, science and commerce subjects.^[6]^[7]

Binod Bihari Mahto Koylanchal University is located in Dhanbad, Jharkhand, India. Binod Bihari Mahto Koyalanchal University, Dhanbad "came into existence by the Jharkhand Govt. notification of 23rd March 2017, published as Gazettes notification No 216 dated 11th April 2017. Foundation stone of the University Campus was laid on 13th November 2017 by the Chief of Jharakhand, Sri. Raghubar Das." The University has 10 Constituent colleges, 18 Affiliated colleges, 25 B.Ed. colleges, 02 Engineering colleges, 02 Law colleges and 01 Medical College spread in Dhanbad and Bokaro districts of Jharkhand, with its headquarter at Dhanbad. The University offers Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses with 21 Postgraduate Departments, which includes the Department of Management, Education, Mass Communication, Art & Culture, Law, Foreign Languages, Life Science, Computer Science, and Environmental Science & disaster Management.

KSSM Inter College is a coeducational residential institution at Nirsa.^[8]

SSKBC High School was established at Bhamal in 1957. It is a Hindi-medium coeducational secondary school having facilities for teaching in classes IX and X.^[9]
