Brendan Moylan is an Australian solicitor and politician who has represented Northern Tablelands in the New South Wales Legislative Assembly since a 2024 by-election,as a member of The Nationals.
Moylan grew up on his family's wheat and cattle farm in the Emerald Hill district,outside of Gunnedah NSW,his parents were farmers,and his mother Deidre also worked as a Registered Nurse in Gunnedah.
Moylan attended St Xavier's School in Gunnedah for his primary schooling and then boarded at St Joseph's College Hunters Hill (Joeys) for the duration of his secondary schooling.
In 1999 Moylan commenced a combined Arts/Law Degree at the University of New England,and resided on campus at St Alberts College (Albies). Moylan represented Albies in the 1st XV side and the zone New England 1st XV at Country week. Moylan was also an academic tutor during his years at Albies. Whilst studying Moylan worked behind the bar and as a glassie at the New England Hotel in Armidale together with working on farms in the Armidale district during term and on farms in the Mungindi district during term breaks.
Upon the completion of his degree Moylan moved to Moree and commenced working at the law firm Webb and Boland in December 2003,he became partner in 2007 and remained at Webb and Boland until entering politics in 2024. [1] [2] Whilst Moylan worked as a solicitor his practice was predominately focused on Land and Environment Court work.
Moylan is married with 3 children.
On 13 May 2024,Adam Marshall resigned from his seat of Northern Tablelands,thus triggering a by-election. [3] [4] Moylan was selected by the NSW Nationals as their main candidate for the electoral district. [5] [6] On the day of the by-election,he came in first place,with 17,843 votes. [7] [8]
New England is a geographical region in the north of the state of New South Wales, Australia, about 60 km (37 mi) inland from the Tasman Sea. The area includes the Northern Tablelands and the North West Slopes regions. As of 2021, New England had a population of 185,560, with over a quarter of the people living in the area of Tamworth Regional Council.

Prior to his election to state parliament, he served as Mayor of Armidale City Council from 1995 to 1998.

The Northern Tablelands, also known as the New England Tableland, is a plateau and a region of the Great Dividing Range in northern New South Wales, Australia. It includes the New England Range, the narrow highlands area of the New England region, stretching from the Moonbi Range in the south to the Queensland border in the north. The region corresponds generally to the Bureau of Meteorology forecast area for the Northern Tablelands which in this case includes Inverell although it is significantly lower in elevation.
The Armidale Dumaresq Council was a local government area in the New England and Northern Tablelands regions of New South Wales, Australia. This area was formed in 2000 from the merger of the original City of Armidale with the surrounding Dumaresq Shire and abolished on 12 May 2016, where the council, together with Guyra Shire, was subsumed into the Armidale Regional Council with immediate effect.
The North West Slopes region of New South Wales, Australia, refers generally to the area west of the Northern Tablelands, to the north of the Central West region and to the east of the Far West region. Despite its name, the region is in north-central New South Wales, corresponding generally to the Australian Bureau of Meteorology's forecast area of North West Slopes and Plains. The administrative areas of the region include the city of Tamworth, Gunnedah, Moree, Narrabri and Inverell.
Armidale was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of New South Wales, named after and including Armidale. It was originally created in 1894, when multi-member districts were abolished, and the three member district of New England was largely divided between Armidale, Uralla-Walcha and Bingara. In 1920, with the introduction of proportional representation, it was absorbed into Northern Tablelands, along with Gough and Tenterfield. It was recreated in 1927 and abolished in 1981 and partly replaced by the recreated Northern Tablelands.
Gough was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of New South Wales, named after the Gough County, which includes the town of Glen Innes. It was created in the 1904 re-distribution of electorates following the 1903 New South Wales referendum, which required the number of members of the Legislative Assembly to be reduced from 125 to 90. It consisted of the abolished seat of Glenn Innes and part of Inverell.

It was recreated in 1927 and abolished in 1981 and partly replaced by the recreated Northern Tablelands.
The New England New State Movement was an Australian political movement in the twentieth century. Founded as the Northern Separation Movement, the aim of the movement was to seek the secession of the New England region and surrounding areas from the State of New South Wales (NSW) and the establishment of a new State of New England. While popular at first and the subject of two Royal Commissions, the movement was unsuccessful, and was defeated at a referendum in 1967.
