Builsa District is a former district that was located in Upper East Region, Ghana. Originally created as an ordinary district assembly in 1988. However on 28 June 2012, it was split off into two new districts: Builsa North District (which it was elevated to municipal district assembly status on 19 December 2018; capital: Sandema) and Builsa South District (capital: Fumbisi). The district assembly was located in the western part of Upper East Region and had Sandema as its capital town.

Builsa North Municipal District Municipal District in Upper East, Ghana

Builsa North Municipal District is one of the fifteen districts in Upper East Region, Ghana. Originally it was formerly part of the then-larger Builsa District in 1988, until the southern part of the district was split off to create Builsa South District on 29 February 2008; thus the remaining part has been renamed as Builsa North District, which it was later elevated to municipal district assembly status on 19 December 2018 to become Builsa North Municipal District. The municipality is located in the western part of Upper East Region and has Sandema as its capital town.

West Mamprusi Municipal Assembly District in North East, Ghana

West Mamprusi Municipal Assembly is one of the six districts in North East Region, Ghana. Originally created as an ordinary district assembly in 1988 when it was known as West Mamprusi District, which was created from the former Mamprusi District Council, until the western part of the district was split off on 28 June 2012 to create Mamprugu-Moagduri District; thus the remaining part has been retained as West Mamprusi District. However on 15 March 2018, it was elevated to municipal district assembly status to become West Mamprusi Municipal District. The municipality is located in the western part of North East Region and has Walewale as its capital town. Other settlements within the municipal assembly include Wulugu.

Kintampo District Former District in Brong-Ahafo, Ghana

Kintampo District is a former district that was located in Brong-Ahafo Region, Ghana. Originally created as an ordinary district assembly on 10 March 1989. However on 12 November 2003, it was split off into two new districts: Kintampo North District and Kintampo South District. The district assembly was located in the southern part of Brong-Ahafo Region and had Kintampo as its capital town.

The Fiok festival is celebrated by the chiefs and peoples of Sandema in the Upper East Region of Ghana. The festival is celebrated in the month of December every year.

Akantigsi Afoko was a Ghanaian teacher and politician. He was a member of the Legislative Assembly representing the Northern territories from 1951 to 1954. In 1954 he was elected to represent the Builsa electoral district in the Legislative Assembly, he was re-elected in 1956 and maintained his post as the member of parliament for the constituency until 1965. In 1965 he became the member of parliament for the Sandema constituency. He served in this capacity until the ousting of the Nkrumah government in 1966. Prior to politics Afoko was a trained teacher who taught at Fumbisi, a town in the Builsa District of Ghana.

The Battle of Sandema was a battle in Africa that was fought between Babatu and the people of Sandema. The battle is said to have taken place at a place called Akumcham, where the Builsa united and defeated the leader of the Zabarma warriors.
