Canton High School (CHS) is a secondary school in Canton, Massachusetts, United States.

History

Canton High School is situated in Canton, about 15 mi (24 km) southwest of downtown Boston. First discussed in 1866 among prominent members of the town of Canton, the high school was established in 1869, when, for the first time, four classes were educated in the same building at a grammar school in South Canton. [3]

In 1911 the Hemenway School became Canton's principal high school due to the population increase and a need for a larger building. It became an elementary school in 1950 after high school students transferred to a new building. [4]

The student body makeup is 49 percent male and 51 percent female, and the total minority enrollment is 24 percent. [5]

Sports

Canton High School's athletic teams compete in the Hockomock League. [6]

In November 2019 Canton won the girls volleyball Division II state championship. [7]

The Hockomock League is an interscholastic high school athletic league located in Southeastern Massachusetts, founded in 1932. The league took its name from a historic, freshwater swamp which served as a fortress for the Wampanoag native tribe during the King Philip’s War. The Wampanoags revered the area, naming it, “Hockomock,” an Algonquin word meaning, “Place where spirits dwell.” Today, the Hockomock Swamp is a protected environmental area and many local businesses, agencies and organizations use the Hockomock moniker to refer to their association with this region.

Cloquet High School (CHS) is a high school in Cloquet in the U.S. state of Minnesota. Operated by Cloquet Public Schools, it serves approximately 700 students; a typical graduating class has 160 to 200 members. It has existed for over 100 years. The current building was built in 1969, with the old building then being turned into a middle school. That building was built in 1921 replacing an earlier school destroyed, along with much of the town, in the 1918 Cloquet fire.
