Castle, also historically known as Castle Northwich [1] is a western suburb, ward [2] and historic township [3] of Northwich in Cheshire West and Chester borough of Cheshire, England. It is located to the west of the town centre and is separated by the River Weaver and two bridges. It had a population of 9,226, including the nearby suburb of Winnington at the 2021 UK Census. [4]

History

Castle Northwich was historically a township in the parish of Witton until 1894. When the parish and township were abolished and became part of the wider Northwich Urban District Council until 1974. When it too was abolished and Northwich became a civil parish and part of originally the Borough of Vale Royal until 2009 and then Cheshire West and Chester. [5] [6]

Holy Trinity Church

A notable landmark in Castle is the Grade II listed, Holy Trinity Church with its tall spire and is one of the tallest landmarks in Northwich. [7] [8]

Castle is located on the A59 road and is near to Greenbank railway station. [9]

It is an active Anglican parish church in the deanery of Middlewich, the archdeaconry of Chester, and the diocese of Chester. Its benefice was united with that of St Luke, Winnington, Northwich until 2018 when the benefice was dissolved and Holy Trinity became a single parish again. The church is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II listed building.
