Pedra Branca is an outlying island and the easternmost point of Singapore. The name of the island,which is Portuguese for "white rock",refers to whitish guano deposited on the rock. The island consists of a small outcrop of granite rocks with an area of about 8,560 square metres (92,100 sq ft) at low tide. During the low water spring tide it measures,at its longest,137 metres (449 ft) and has an average width of 60 metres (200 ft). Pedra Branca is situated at 1°19′48″N104°24′27″E,where the Singapore Strait meets the South China Sea.

Tan Lee Meng is an emeritus professor in the National University of Singapore Faculty of Law. Choo Han Teck is a Singaporean judge of the Supreme Court. He was formerly a lawyer before his appointment to the court as a judge. It was revealed in 2021 that Choo was one of the defence lawyers representing Adrian Lim,the infamous Toa Payoh child killer who was executed in 1988 for charges of murdering a girl and boy as ritual sacrifices. In 1994,Choo also defended Phua Soy Boon,a jobless Singaporean who was hanged in 1995 for killing a moneylender.
Steven Chong Horng Siong is a Singaporean judge who has been serving as a judge of the Court of Appeal of Singapore since 2017. He had previously served as the seventh attorney-general of Singapore between 2012 and 2014,and a judge of the High Court of Singapore between 2010 and 2012,and again between 2014 and 2017.
Thirugnana Sampanthar Sinnathuray,known professionally as T. S. Sinnathuray and to his friends as Sam Sinnathuray,was a judge of the High Court of Singapore. Educated at University College London and called to the bar at Lincoln's Inn,he practised for a few years in a law firm before beginning a career with the Singapore Legal Service,serving with the Attorney-General's Chambers as Crown Counsel and deputy public prosecutor (1960–1963),and senior state counsel (1966–1967);with the Subordinate Courts as a magistrate (1956–1959),first district judge (1967–1970),and senior district judge (1971–1978);and with the Supreme Court as deputy registrar and sheriff (1959–1960),and registrar (1963–1966). In 1978 he was elevated to the office of Judge of the High Court of Singapore,and served until his retirement in 1997.
The Pedra Branca dispute was a territorial dispute between Singapore and Malaysia over several islets at the eastern entrance to the Singapore Strait,namely Pedra Branca,Middle Rocks and South Ledge. The dispute began in 1979 and was largely resolved by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in 2008,which opined that Pedra Branca belonged to Singapore and Middle Rocks belonged to Malaysia. Sovereignty over South Ledge belongs to the state in the territorial waters of which it is located.

Kho Jabing,later in life Muhammad Kho Abdullah,was a Malaysian of mixed Chinese and Iban descent from Sarawak,Malaysia,who partnered with a friend to rob and murder a Chinese construction worker named Cao Ruyin in Singapore on 17 February 2008. While his accomplice was eventually jailed and caned for robbery,Kho Jabing was convicted of murder and sentenced to death on 30 July 2010,and lost his appeal on 24 May 2011.
Quentin Loh Sze-On is a Singaporean judge who sits on the High Court of Singapore and the Supreme Court of Fiji.
Galing Anak Kujat is a convicted robber and a native Malaysian of Iban descent who came from Sarawak,Malaysia. He was best known to be the accomplice of Kho Jabing,a convicted murderer who also came from Malaysia and was known for his years-long battle against the death penalty in Singapore. Galing and Kho were both involved in the 2008 robbery and murder of mainland Chinese national and construction worker Cao Ruyin in Singapore. Initially facing a murder charge and possible execution,Galing was eventually imprisoned and jailed for robbery with hurt.
