Eleanor Wong Siew Yin (born 6 February 1962) is a Singaporean playwright,poet,lawyer and legal academic. She is an associate professor of law at the National University of Singapore,where she is vice dean of student affairs and director of the legal skills programme. She is also a member of the Remaking Singapore Committee.
A graduate of the National University of Singapore (NUS) Faculty of Law as a Public Service Commission merit scholar,Wong won the Best Oralist (Championship Round) at the 1985 Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition,where she was a member of the victorious NUS moot team. Wong started her career with the Commercial Affairs Department,prosecuting complex commercial and securities frauds. She obtained a Master of Laws in corporate law from New York University in 1990 and practised in the New York office of Coudert Brothers before returning to Singapore in 1992.
Wong also provided communications consultancy and held several top management portfolios within the television production arena. She has anchored a television current affairs show After Hours,and used to host a radio programme,Sex,Rights &Videotape. Wong has worked as a prosecutor and an international finance lawyer. Wong also serves as a mentor on the playwright development platform Watch This Space,spearheaded by director-playwright Chong Tze Chien,where she first mentored teacher and playwright Lucas Ho. Wong joined NUS in 2002 as director of the legal skills programme. [1]
Wong's plays have been produced in Singapore and regionally. She is best known for Invitation to Treat (2003),her trilogy of plays centred on the experiences of the character Ellen Toh,a lesbian lawyer in Singapore. This comprised the plays Mergers and Accusations,Wills and Secession and Jointly and Severably. Mergers and Accusations won the National Book Development Council of Singapore Award (Drama) in 1996. In 2005,Firstfruits Publications published the trilogy in book form. Wong made her theatrical debut with her first play,Peter's Passionate Pursuit,which clinched a joint first prize at the NUS-Shell Short Play Competition in 1986. [2] Wong is currently one of two writers-in-residence at the Centre for Quantum Technologies (CQT) at NUS. [3]
Wong has also written poems:she contributed 12 to y grec (2005),a collection co-authored with Madeleine Lee and recently published Life –Science (2010),22 poems accompanied by Chinese translations by Enoch Ng and Caleb Kiu. In 2015,Wills &Secession was selected by The Business Times as one of the "finest plays in 50 years" alongside productions by Goh Poh Seng,Michael Chiang and Alfian Sa'at and others. [4]

The National University of Singapore (NUS) is a national public research university in Singapore. Founded in 1905 as the Straits Settlements and Federated Malay States Government Medical School, NUS is the oldest autonomous university in the country. It offers degree programmes in a wide range of disciplines at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including in the sciences, medicine and dentistry, design and environment, law, arts and social sciences, engineering, business, computing, and music.

This article deals with writing that deals with LGBT themes in a Singapore context. It covers literary works of fiction, such as novels, short stories, plays and poems. It also includes non-fiction works, both scholarly and targeted at the general reader, such as dissertations, journal or magazine articles, books and even web-based content. Although Singapore lacks a dedicated gay book publisher or gay bookshop, it does have at least one dedicated gay library, Pelangi Pride Centre, which is open weekly to the public. Many of the works cited here may be found both in Pelangi Pride Centre, as well as the National Library or other academic libraries in Singapore, as well as in some commercial bookshops under 'gender studies' sections.

Kwa Geok Choo was a Singaporean lawyer. She was the wife of former Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew and the mother of current Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. She was also the co-founder and partner of law firm Lee & Lee.
Claire Wong is a Malaysian actor, director, producer, and filmmaker. She is the co-founder and Joint Artistic Director and Producer of Checkpoint Theatre. Wong writes, directs, produces, and acts for the stage and for the camera. She has received training in both Asian and Western performing arts and obtained her post-graduate degree, a Master of Fine Arts (MFA), from Columbia University. Wong's recent producing and directing credits include: Huzir Sulaiman's The Last Bull: A Life in Flamenco , Occupation (2012) and The Weight of Silk on Skin (2011); Faith Ng's Normal , For Better or for Worse (2013) and wo(men) (2010); Joel Tan's The Way We Go (2014). Her play Recalling Mother which was co-written and co-directed with Noorlinah Mohamed, recently played at Esplanade's The Studios and at the Brisbane and OzAsia Festivals.
The National University of Singapore Faculty of Law is Singapore's oldest law school. NUS Law was initially established in 1956 as the Department of Law in the University of Malaya. After its establishment, NUS Law was Singapore's only law school for half a century, until the subsequent establishment of the SMU School of Law in 2007 and the SUSS School of Law in 2017. NUS Law is currently located at the NUS Bukit Timah Campus. The current dean of NUS Law is Andrew Simester. Internationally, NUS Law has been ranked twelfth by the QS World University Rankings by Subject in 2023 and ninth by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings by Subject in 2023.
The Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, also known as the Jessup Moot or The Jessup, is the oldest and largest international moot competition in the world, attracting participants from almost 700 law schools in more than 90 countries in recent years. The competition has been described as the most prestigious moot court competition in the world by a large number of organisations and universities internationally, and is one of the grand slam or major moots.

Thio Li-ann is a Singaporean law professor at the National University of Singapore. She was educated at the University of Oxford, Harvard Law School and the University of Cambridge. In January 2007, she was appointed a Nominated Member of Parliament (NMP) in Singapore's 11th Parliament.
The Yong Pung How School of Law is one of the six schools of the Singapore Management University. It was set up as Singapore's second law school in 2007, 50 years after the NUS Faculty of Law and 10 years before SUSS School of Law. Prior to its establishment as a law school, the school was a department within the School of Business between 2000 and 2007. The school was known as the SMU School of Law until 2021, when it was renamed after former Chief Justice Yong Pung How.
The Asia Cup Moot, or Asia Cup in short, is an annual international moot court competition that is open to law schools in Asia. The competition inaugurated in 1999 and is held in Tokyo, Japan. It is jointly organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan and the International Law Students Exchange Council, and the moot problem typically contains issues pertaining to public international law, international humanitarian law, and international human rights. The top 10–12 scoring teams for the memorials qualify for the international rounds in Tokyo, but generally each country except Japan is only permitted to send one team. Each team may feature up to four oralists. As of 2021, 56 different law schools have competed in Tokyo since the moot's inception.
Subhas Anandan was a Singaporean criminal lawyer. He had appeared in numerous notable cases, including a case involving actress Quan Yi Fong hitting a taxi driver in 2010, and a case involving retail tycoon Tang Wee Sung in 2008 — who tried to illegally purchase a kidney from a living donor, as well as many murder cases, like those of Anthony Ler who manipulated and instigated a 15-year-old boy to kill his estranged wife in 2001; Took Leng How, who murdered Huang Na in 2004; robber and kidnapper Abdul Nasir bin Amer Hamsah; Tan Chor Jin, who shot a nightclub owner in Serangoon; and Leong Siew Chor, who killed and dismembered his lover.

Cheong Chun Yin is a Malaysian and former death row convict who is currently serving life imprisonment in Singapore. Cheong and his accomplice Pang Siew Fum were convicted of trafficking of 2,726g of heroin into Singapore from Myanmar in 2008, and sentenced to death by hanging in 2010. Cheong submitted multiple unsuccessful appeals against his sentence; his case, similar to Yong Vui Kong's, received much attention in the media, at a time when activists argued for Singapore to abolish the death penalty.
Thio Su Mien is a Singaporean former legal academic and lawyer. She was the dean of the National University of Singapore's Faculty of Law from 1968 to 1971.
