Goh Yihan (born 1981) is a Judge of the Supreme Court of Singapore. He was previously a Judicial Commissioner,and,before that,the Dean of the Singapore Management University School of Law. [1]
Goh graduated from the National University of Singapore Faculty of Law with a first class honours LLB in 2006 as the valedictorian. He also topped his second-year examinations and was on the NUS Undergraduate Scholarship. At the 2004 B. A. Mallal Moot,he won both the best oralist and best memorial prizes. [1]
Goh obtained his LLM from Harvard Law School in 2010. He had received the NUS University Overseas Scholarship in 2009 to pursue his postgraduate studies. [1]
Goh was called to the Singapore Bar in 2011. He had received the Order of Merit in the 2006 bar examinations. [1] In 2013,he became the youngest recipient of the Singapore Academy of Law's Singapore Law Merit Award. [2]
Goh returned to the National University of Singapore Faculty of Law in 2008,where he was a teaching assistant until 2010. He was then appointed as an assistant professor from 2011 to 2014. [1]
Goh left NUS Law in June 2014. [3] He had received four university and faculty teaching awards in six years in NUS. [1]
Goh became an associate professor of law at the Singapore Management University School of Law in July 2014. He was also appointed associate dean (research) in January 2016. Over two years,he received two faculty teaching awards. [1]
Goh became the dean of SMU Law in July 2017,succeeding Yeo Tiong Min. He was appointed for a five-year term after "a [six-month] extensive and rigorous global search". At 35,he was the youngest person to become dean, [4] though he was already "a well-recognised and active expert in the legal profession". [2]
In July 2019,Goh was appointed a full professor of law at SMU.
After obtaining his LLB,Goh was deployed as a Justices' Law Clerk in the Supreme Court from 2006 to 2008. In 2008,he became a Senior Justices' Law Clerk,then served as an Assistant Registrar of the Supreme Court. [1]
Goh has served as amicus curiae to the Court of Appeal on numerous occasions. [1] The court has described his written and oral submissions as "comprehensive,elegantly expressed,and lucidly organised", [5] and as "models of clarity and conciseness". [6]
Goh was appointed senior counsel in January 2021. [7]
On 1 July 2022,Goh was appointed a Judicial Commissioner of the Supreme Court for a two-year term. [8]
On 1 October 2023,Goh was appointed a Judge of the High Court. In his work in the High Court,his areas of focus were finance,securities,banking,complex commercial cases;corporate insolvency;company,trusts and insolvency;intellectual property or information technology;and tort claims. [9]
On 4 November 2024,it was announced that Goh will be resigning as a Judge and will be appointed a Deputy Attorney-General on 1 January 2025. [9]
Goh is a board member of the Singapore Institute of Legal Education and the Singapore Judicial College. [4] He is also a visiting academic at Rajah &Tann. [1]
The legal system of Singapore is based on the English common law system. Major areas of law –particularly administrative law,contract law,equity and trust law,property law and tort law –are largely judge-made,though certain aspects have now been modified to some extent by statutes. However,other areas of law,such as criminal law,company law and family law,are largely statutory in nature.

Yong Pung How was a Malayan-born Singaporean judge who served as the second chief justice of Singapore between 1990 and 2006.
Tan Lee Meng is an emeritus professor in the National University of Singapore Faculty of Law. He was first appointed as a Judicial Commissioner on 2 February 1997,and then appointed Judge in August 1997,serving until he reached the mandatory retirement age of 65 on 7 July 2013. He also completed two consecutive three-year terms of service as a Senior Judge of the Supreme Court of Singapore. He returned to the NUS after his time in the judiciary,having made "outstanding contributions to the Supreme Court,the Legal Service and the legal profession." At the time of his appointment,Tan was the first ever academic to be appointed to the Supreme Court and his judgments were said to be "instructive,soundly reasoned,and easy to grasp."
Andrew Phang Boon LeongPJG is a Singaporean judge in the Supreme Court,currently sitting as a Senior Judge.

Andrew Ang is a Singaporean former judge of the Supreme Court. He obtained a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Singapore in 1971 and a Master of Laws from Harvard Law School in 1973. He lectured for a few years at the University of Singapore,and then worked as a lawyer at Messrs Lee &Lee for 30 years. He was appointed Judicial Commissioner in May 2004 and Judge in May 2005. After a decade on the Bench,he retired on 25 February 2014. In 2000,he was conferred the Pingat Bakti Masyarakat.
Thirugnana Sampanthar Sinnathuray,known professionally as T. S. Sinnathuray and to his friends as Sam Sinnathuray,was a judge of the High Court of Singapore. Educated at University College London and called to the bar at Lincoln's Inn,he practised for a few years in a law firm before beginning a career with the Singapore Legal Service,serving with the Attorney-General's Chambers as Crown Counsel and deputy public prosecutor (1960–1963),and senior state counsel (1966–1967);with the Subordinate Courts as a magistrate (1956–1959),first district judge (1967–1970),and senior district judge (1971–1978);and with the Supreme Court as deputy registrar and sheriff (1959–1960),and registrar (1963–1966). In 1978 he was elevated to the office of Judge of the High Court of Singapore,and served until his retirement in 1997.
Sundaresh Menon is a Singaporean lawyer and judge who has been serving as Chief Justice of Singapore since 2012.
Judicial independence is protected by Singapore's Constitution,statutes such as the State Courts Act and Supreme Court of Judicature Act,and the common law. Independence of the judiciary is the principle that the judiciary should be separated from legislative and executive power,and shielded from inappropriate pressure from these branches of government,and from private or partisan interests. The Yong Pung How School of Law is one of the six schools of the Singapore Management University. It was set up as Singapore's second law school in 2007,50 years after the NUS Faculty of Law and 10 years before SUSS School of Law. Prior to its establishment as a law school,the school was a department within the School of Business between 2000 and 2007. The school was known as the SMU School of Law until 2021,when it was renamed after former Chief Justice Yong Pung How.

Yeo Tiong MinSCPBM (杨忠明) is a Singaporean legal academic. He is the Yong Pung How Professor of Law at the Singapore Management University School of Law and served as its dean from 2012 to 2017. In his time as Dean,Yeo was credited for his role in developing the Singapore Management University School of Law "into a leading law school in Singapore and in Asia." Yeo was succeeded as dean in 2017 by Goh Yihan. At the time he stepped down,Yeo was said to have "been instrumental in developing SOL into a leading law school in Singapore and in Asia". Yeo recently published a new book entitled "Commercial Conflict of Laws".
