Max Yergan American activist

Max Yergan was an African-American activist notable for being a Baptist missionary for the YMCA, then a Communist working with Paul Robeson, and finally a staunch anti-Communist who complimented the government of apartheid-era South Africa for that part of their program. He was a mentor of Govan Mbeki, who later achieved distinction in the African National Congress. He served as the second president of the National Negro Congress, a coalition of hundreds of African-American organizations created in 1935 by religious, labor, civic and fraternal leaders to fight racial discrimination, establish relations with black organizations throughout the world, and oppose the deportation of black immigrants. Along with Paul Robeson, he co-founded the International Committee on African Affairs in 1937, later the Council on African Affairs.

Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools public school system in Orange County, North Carolina

Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools (CHCCS) is a school district which educates over 12,000 students in the southeastern part of Orange County, North Carolina. Being near three major universities as well as the Research Triangle Park, it serves one of the best educated populations in the United States. It is the school district for most of Chapel Hill and all of Carrboro, including schools from elementary through high school. It is financed through property taxes, including a city supplement, as well as state and federal funds. The administrative center is located at Lincoln Center at 750 South Merritt Mill Road. Lincoln Center is the site of the former all-black high school. Services are available for gifted, special needs, and limited English proficiency students. The District's mission is "to enable all students to acquire, through programs of excellence and fairness, the knowledge, skills, and insights necessary to live rewarding, productive lives in an ever-changing society." Dr. Pamela Baldwin has served as the Superintendent since April 2017, her resignation was accepted on April 16, 2020 effective July 1, 2020.

The Sodality Chapel is a historic Roman Catholic chapel building on the campus of Spring Hill College in Mobile, Alabama, United States. It was built in 1850 in a simple Greek Revival style. As its name implies, the area is on a high spot within the township between Fairview and Leonardo just south of the Naval Weapons Station Earle Waterfront Section. Unlike other areas of Middletown Township, the Chapel Hill section is not as developed with single-family homes; only a few housing developments are located off the area's main roads, Kings Highway and Chapel Hill Road. The rest of the area outside NWS Earle consists of horse farms and forestland.
