Chitranjan Singh Ranawat is an American orthopedic surgeon of Indian origin.
Ranawat was born in Sarwania, in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh and did his early medical education at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College, Indore [1] and his schooling from The Daly College, Indore before moving to the US for advanced training. [2] There, he worked at St. Peters Hospital, Albany and Albany Medical Center and received certification as an orthopedic surgeon by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery in 1969. [3] Later, he moved to Lenox Hill Hospital where he became the chairman and director of the Orthopedic department. He has also served as a professor at the Weill Medical College of Cornell University and as a visiting faculty at other universities. [4] Ranawat and Albert Burstein of the Hospital for Special Surgery, also in New York City, invented a hip replacement implant marketed by Biomet. [1] [5]
In 1986 he founded the Ranawat Foundation, a philanthropic organization. [3] and in 2001 he received the Padma Bhushan, the third highest Indian civilian award. [6] Each year at its annual meeting, the Knee Society presents the "Chitranjan S. Ranawat, MD Award" and two other awards for the best research papers that year. [7]

Besides being a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and a founder Fellow of the National Academy of Medical Sciences, he published several articles on orthopedics and was a recipient of Robert Jones Medal and the Presidential Merit Award of the British Orthopaedic Association. The Government of India awarded him the third highest civilian honour of the Padma Bhushan, in 1966, for his contributions to the Medical Science.
Shyama Prasad Mandal is an Indian orthopedic surgeon and the co-chairperson of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi. After securing his graduate and MS degrees from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, he continued his education to secure the degree of MCh in orthopedics from Liverpool University. He is a former president of the Indian Orthopaedic Association as well as the president of its Building Committee and the incumbent president of Board of Trustees of Amarjyoti Charitable Trust, a not-for-profit organization engaged in educational and rehabilitation service. He has been involved with the organization of medical conferences, and was the co-chairman of the organizing committee of Knee and Arthroscopy Workshop of 2008 and the patron of the Lower Limb Symposia of 2012, conducted jointly by the Indian Federation of Sports Medicine, Indian Arthroscopy Society and Indian Association of Sports Medicine. He was in the news when he examined Sachin Tendulkar in 1999 for his recurring back injury. The Government of India awarded him the fourth highest civilian honour of the Padma Shri, in 2011, for his contributions to medical science. He is also a recipient of a civilian honor from the Government of Bangladesh. Indian Orthopedic Association has instituted an award, S. P. Mandal Gold Medal, in his honor.
Steven B. Haas is chief of the Knee Service at Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) and has developed multiple innovative surgical techniques and instrumentations to improve and facilitate knee replacements. Haas has been awarded numerous patents for his initiatives. One of Haas's most significant contributions to knee surgery was developing the Minimally Invasive Knee Replacement, which allowed patients to have much smaller scars and speedier recoveries. Haas has been listed on New York magazine's annual "Best Doctors in New York" list since 2007 and has more than 100 orthopedics-related publications. He travels to present on topics pertaining to knee surgery.
Philip Duncan Wilson Jr. (1920–2016) was an orthopedic surgeon who brought total hip replacement surgery to the Hospital for Special Surgery in 1967. He started at the Hospital for Special Surgery in 1948, and served as the Surgeon-in-Chief from 1972 to 1989. He served as the President of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons in 1972.
Gopal Krishna Vishwakarma, more popularly known as G K Vishwakarma, was an eminent orthopedic surgeon, academician and public health administrator. He was the Director General of Health Services from October 1986 to his retirement in October 1992. He was awarded the Silver Jubilee Award (1983) and the Dr. B. C. Roy Award by Medical Council of India, The Government of India, in recognition of his contributions to the field of medicine and public health honored him with the Padma Shri (1985) one of India's highest civilian awards in India.
