The Combat Fitness Test (CFT) is an annual physical fitness test of the United States Marine Corps. The purpose of the CFT is to assess a Marine's physical capacity in a broad spectrum of combat related tasks. The CFT was specifically designed to evaluate strength, stamina, agility, and coordination as well as overall anaerobic capacity. The CFT is a complement to the USMC Physical Fitness Test and measures the functional elements of combat fitness through execution of a series of events that represent every Marine's combat experience, emphasizing the ethos of "every Marine is a rifleman." [1] All active duty and reserve Marines are required to conduct the Combat Fitness Test every year between the dates 1 July to 1 January. The test is designed to test each Marine's ability to perform in a high-intensity setting. The British Army formerly used a test of the same name which is currently known as the Annual Fitness Test.
In the Marine Corps, the Combat Fitness Test has three events: [2]

The scoring for the Army Combat Fitness Test (ACFT) is designed to reflect a soldier's physical capabilities and readiness for combat. Each of the six events is scored on a scale from 0 to 100 points, with a maximum possible score of 600 points for the entire test. The scores are based on performance benchmarks that vary according to the physical demands of a soldier's specific job, or Military Occupational Specialty (MOS). These benchmarks are grouped into three physical demand categories: Heavy, Significant, and Moderate. To pass the ACFT, soldiers must achieve at least 60 points in each event, with the minimum passing score adjusted based on the MOS category. Unlike its predecessor, the APFT, the ACFT's scoring system is gender-neutral and does not vary by age, making it a more uniform assessment of physical readiness across the Army. This approach aims to ensure that all soldiers meet a consistent standard of fitness necessary for combat effectiveness.
Marine Corps CFTs are scored the following way for males: [3]
Age 17-20: A perfect score of 100 is earned by completing this task in 2 minutes and 40 seconds or less. The minimum passing score is 3 minutes and 45 seconds.
Age 21-25: A perfect score of 100 is earned by completing this task in 2 minutes and 38 seconds or less. The minimum passing score is 3 minutes and 45 seconds.
Age 26-30: A perfect score of 100 is earned by completing this task in 2 minutes and 39 seconds or less. The minimum passing score is 3 minutes and 48 seconds.
Age 31-35: A perfect score of 100 is earned by completing this task in 2 minutes and 42 seconds or less. The minimum passing score is 3 minutes and 51 seconds.
Age 36-40: A perfect score of 100 is earned by completing this task in 2 minutes and 45 seconds or less. The minimum passing score is 3 minutes and 58 seconds.
Age 41-45: A perfect score of 100 is earned by completing this task in 2 minutes and 52 seconds or less. The minimum passing score is 4 minutes and 11 seconds.
Age 46-50: A perfect score of 100 is earned by completing this task in 3 minutes and 1 seconds or less. The minimum passing score is 4 minutes and 28 seconds.
Age 51+: A perfect score of 100 is earned by completing this task in 3 minutes and 5 seconds or less. The minimum passing score is 5 minutes and 7 seconds.
A perfect score of 100 is achieved with 91 ammo can lifts. Points are deducted as follows:

Marine Corps CFTs are scored the following way for females (age 17-26):
A perfect score of 100 is earned by completing this task in under 3 minutes and 23 seconds. One point is deducted for each additional 2 seconds up to a final time of 5 minutes and 27 seconds (5.27).
A perfect score of 100 is achieved with 91 ammo can lifts. Deducting points for this event is fairly straightforward: every lift less than 60 subtracts 1 point (except for lifts 52, 53, 38, 39, 23, and 24 which only subtract 1/2 a point).
A perfect score of 100 is earned by completing this task in under 3 minutes and 1 seconds (3.01). One point is deducted for each additional 2 seconds up to the longest time of 5 minutes and 59 seconds (5.59).
The Navy Fleet Marine Force Service Ribbon, was a military award of the United States Navy established in 1984 by Secretary of the Navy, John F. Lehman, Jr. The service ribbon was awarded to eligible Navy personnel serving with the Marine Corps between 1984 and 2006. The award signified the acquisition of specific professional skills, knowledge and military experience that resulted in qualifications above those normally required of Navy personnel serving with the Fleet Marine Force (FMF). The FMF Ribbon was discontinued in the mid-2000s due to the promulgation of the FMF badges.
The Fleet Marine Force Warfare Insignia, also known as the Fleet Marine Force badge or FMF pin, are three military badges of the United States Navy which are issued to those U.S. Navy officers and sailors who are trained and qualified to perform duties in support of the United States Marine Corps. United States Marine Corps Scout Sniper was a secondary MOS designator of U.S. Marine Corps infantrymen and reconnaissance Marines that have graduated from a U.S. Marine Corps Scout Sniper School. Scout Snipers must earn the rank of Lance Corporal, be selected by their battalion to join the scout-sniper platoon, and complete an approved scout-sniper course in order to receive this designation. As of December 2023, Marine scout snipers have been reorganized as MOS 0322 Reconnaissance Sniper Marines, as part of a 26-Marine Scout Platoon.
The United States Marine Corps Officer Candidates School (OCS) is a training regiment designed to screen and evaluate potential Marine Corps Officers. Those who successfully complete the period of instruction are commissioned as Second Lieutenants in the United States Marines. Unlike the other United States military services, the majority of Marine Corps officers complete OCS to earn a commission; the exceptions are midshipmen from the United States Naval Academy, limited duty officers and warrant officers, and inter-service transfers. It is located at Marine Corps Base Quantico.
The Potential Royal Marines Course, often abbreviated to PRMC, was a Royal Marines selection course for Potential Recruits. The course was held at the Commando Training Centre Royal Marines, and was designed to assess a candidate's suitability for entry into the Royal Marines. The course in no longer held having been replaced by the Candidate Preparation Course (CPC).
The Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT) was a test designed to measure the muscular strength, endurance, and cardiovascular respiratory fitness of soldiers in the United States Army. The test contained three events: push-ups, sit-ups, and a two-mile run with a soldier scoring from 0 to 100 points in each event based on performance. A minimum score of 60 in each event was required to pass the test.
The Mountain Warfare Training Center (MWTC) is a United States Marine Corps installation located in Pickel Meadows in Mono County, California, at 6,800 feet (2,100 m) above sea level in the Toiyabe National Forest, 21 miles (34 km) northwest of Bridgeport, California. The training center exists to train units in complex compartmented terrain.
The United States Marine Corps requires that all Marines perform a Physical Fitness Test (PFT) and a Combat Fitness Test (CFT) once each calendar year. The United States Army Center for Initial Military Training (USACIMT) was created in 2009 under the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command to oversee training related issues.
In the British Army, the Annual Fitness Test is designed to assess soldiers' lower and upper body strength and endurance. The test was formerly known as the Combat Fitness Test – and is still colloquially known by soldiers as the CFT. The test involves a fast-paced march at fifteen minutes per mile, in full combat gear including the SA80 personal weapon, across rough terrain and on roads. The exact weight of the equipment carried depends upon the type of unit and it is usually 15 kg to 25 kg dependent on service or arm, but all will cover a distance of 8 miles in less than 2 hours.
The 1st Recruit Training Battalion is a battalion of the United States Marine Corps which is used to train new enlisted personnel. It is composed of four Training Companies; Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, and Delta. The recruit training battalion is responsible for ensuring that each company is following the procedures set forth by the Recruit Training Regiment. The Army Reserve Officer Training Corps (AROTC) is the United States Army component of the Reserve Officers' Training Corps. It is the largest Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) program which is a group of college and university-based officer training programs for training commissioned officers for the United States Army and its reserves components: the Army Reserves and the Army National Guard. There are over 30,000 Army ROTC cadets enrolled in 274 ROTC programs at major universities throughout the United States. These schools are categorized as Military Colleges (MC), Military Junior Colleges (MJC) and Civilian Colleges (CC).
The United States Air Force Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) is designed to test the body composition, muscular strength/endurance, and cardiovascular respiratory fitness of airmen in the United States Air Force. As part of the Fit to Fight program, the Air Force adopted a more stringent physical fitness assessment in 2004 and replaced the annual ergo-cycle test that the Air Force had used for several years. Results are stored in the Air Force Fitness Management System (AFFMS) and accessible via the AF Portal.
