"Do It for Your Lover" is a song performed by Spanish singer Manel Navarro and written by himself together with Antonio Rayo "Rayito". [1] The song was released as a digital download on 13 January 2017 through Sony Music Spain. It represented Spain in the Eurovision Song Contest 2017. [2] The song finished last overall in the final of the contest.

Eurovision Song Contest

On 12 January 2017, Navarro was confirmed to be one of the six finalists competing in Objetivo Eurovisión 2017, Spain's national final for the Eurovision Song Contest 2017. [3] On 11 February 2017, the night of the final, Navarro finished first with the juries and third with the Spanish public, tying him with Mirela and her song "Contigo". The jury then broke the tie in Navarro's favour, and he was declared the winner. [4] As Spain is a member of the "Big Five", he automatically advanced to the final, held on 13 May 2017 in Kyiv, Ukraine. [5] [6]

Live performances

Manel Navarro performed the song live for the first time on Objetivo Eurovisión on 11 February 2017, where he won the competition amid much controversy. On 18 February, Manel Navarro performed the song at the Ukrainian national final for the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 as a special guest during the third semi-final. [7] On 25 February, he performed the song on talk show ¡Qué tiempo tan feliz!, aired on Telecinco. [8] On 5 March, he also performed as a guest performer during the Romanian Eurovision national final. [9] On 2 April, Manel Navarro performed the song during the London Eurovision Party, which was held at the Café de Paris venue in London, United Kingdom. [10] On 5 April, he performed at the Israel Calling event in Tel Aviv, Israel. [9] Navarro also performed the song during the 2017 Eurovision in Concert, the largest gathering of Eurovision artists outside of Eurovision itself, held in the Melkweg, a popular music venue in Amsterdam, the Netherlands on 8 April. [11] On 15 April, he performed during the Eurovision-Spain Pre-Party event which was held at the Sala La Riviera venue in Madrid. [12]

Manel Navarro performed the song live during the final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 in Kyiv, Ukraine on 13 May 2017. Hans Pannecoucke was the staging director for this performance. [13] In the climax of the song, Navarro went notoriously off-key, and his bad result was partly attributed to it. [14] He obtained no points from the professional juries and only five from the public televote (all from Portugal), finishing in twenty-sixth (last) place in the final. [15]

Music video

The official video of the song, directed by Mauri D. Galiano, was filmed in February 2017 on the north coast of Tenerife, Canary Islands. [16] The video premiered on Manel Navarro's YouTube Vevo channel on 9 March 2017. [17]

The national final consisted of four heats, a semi-final and a final and involved 57 competing acts. Five acts and five songs ultimately qualified to compete in the televised final where a public televote first selected the top five to advance to the second round. In the second round of voting, a regional televote exclusively selected "I Love You Mi Vida" performed by Nash as the winner. The group was later renamed as D'Nash for the Eurovision Song Contest.

Operación Triunfo is a Spanish reality television music competition to find new singing talent. The eleventh series, also known as Operación Triunfo 2020, began airing on La 1 on 12 January 2020, presented by Roberto Leal.

Spain participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2021 with the song "Voy a quedarme" written by Blas Cantó, Leroy Sanchez, Daniel Ortega "Dangelo" and Dan Hammond. The song was performed by Blas Cantó, who was internally selected by the Spanish broadcaster Televisión Española (TVE) to represent Spain at the 2021 contest in Rotterdam, Netherlands after he was due to compete in the 2020 contest with "Universo" before the event's cancellation. Blas Cantó was announced as the Spanish representative on 18 March 2020, while the national final Destino Eurovisión 2021 was organised in order to select the song Cantó would perform. Two songs competed in the televised show where a public vote exclusively selected "Voy a quedarme" as the winning song, receiving 58% of the votes.

Spain is scheduled to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 in Turin, Italy, with the song "SloMo" performed by Chanel. The Spanish broadcaster Radiotelevisión Española (RTVE) organised Benidorm Fest in order to select the Spanish entry for the 2022 contest. Benidorm Fest consisted of two semi-finals on 26 and 27 January and the final on 29 January 2022. A total of thirteen artists and songs competed, and the winner was determined by a combination of votes from an expert jury, a demoscopic panel and a televote.
