Dr. Bezbarua is a 1969 Indian Assamese language thriller film, the first film of this genre in the language, directed by Brajen Barua and produced by Rangghar Cine Productions. [1] The film was released on 7 November 1969. [2] It was marked as the beginning of success of so-called commercial movies in Assamese Film industry. [3] It was also first time the outdoor and indoor shooting entirely took place in various locations of Assam. [3]
The music of the movie has been composed by Ramen Barua, younger brother of Brajen Barua. Some of the songs of this film are "Moyna Kon Bidhatai", "Ki Naam Di Matim", "Jilika Jilika Tora Akakhore", "Phool Phool Phool" which was sung by Dwipen Barua, Nirmala Mishra etc.

Dr. Bezbarua was awarded with Silver Medal for Best Feature Film in Assamese in the 17th National Film Awards. [4] [5]
A Hindi movie titled as Shivam has been remade from this film [6] which was produced by Jogiraj Choudhury and directed by Anshuman Barua, nephew of the film’s original maker Brojen Barua. [7]
A sequel Dr. Bezbaruah 2 was released on 3rd February 2023.
Assamese cinema is the Indian film industry of Assamese language. It is based in Assam, India. The industry was born in 1935 when Jyoti Prasad Agarwala released his movie Joymoti. Since then the Assamese cinema has developed a slow-paced, sensitive style. In the beginning the industry were called Jollywood, for Agarwala's Jyoti Chitraban Film Studio.
Bhabendra Nath Saikia was a novelist, short-story writer, editor and film director from Assam, India. Saikia received his doctorate in physics from the University of London. He began his career as a reader in the Department of Physics, University of Guwahati. Ö Mür Apünar Dekh is the state and traditional song of Assam, India. It was written by Lakshminath Bezbarua and the tune was made by Kamala Prasad Agarwala. It was first published in 1909 in an Assamese magazine named Bahi ("flute"). Ahir Bhairav is a 2007 Indian Assamese language drama film directed by Siva Prasad Thakur and produced by Dr Ronen Sarma, under the banner of Rondeep Productions (UK) Ltd. This is the first ever Assamese movie that was entirely shot in the UK and was the Assamese's second film to be shot outside India after Hiya Diya Niya (2000). Renu Saikia was a prolific actress in the Assamese film industry, who later became famous as character actress, appearing in three well renowned films bringing a new change to Assamese cinema and theatre, where she appeared in hits like Maniram Dewan (1963), made by Harbeshwar Chakraborty, Dr. Bezbaruah (1968), made by Brojen Baruah and Ratanlal (1970s). She has sung songs in over six regional Indian languages, though primarily in Assamese and Hindi. Beauty Barua married renowned writer and lyricist Dwijendra Mohan Sharma (1948–2006), called the Man with Melody in His Pen by The Daily Telegraph, in 1976.

Burhi Aair Sadhu or Burhi Aai'r Xaadhu is a collection of stories or folklore, that have been compiled by famous Assamese author and poet Lakshminath Bezbaruah. It is one of the most popular texts in Assamese literature. This book was first published in October–November 1911. After the first publication 100 years have been passed and countless editions of the book have been published. This book is in now in the public domain as per copyright law of India.

Eli Ahmed is an Indian writer, scriptwriter, director, lyricist, costume designer, actress and social activist. She is also the editor, publisher and proprietor of ‘Orani’, the women's magazine. It is the only women's magazine in the Northeast since 1970. She had also organised the first women's drama group in Assam in 1967. She was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India in 2017 for her contribution to literature and education.
Rajdweep is an Indian screenwriter, playwright, lyricist and journalist hails from Dhing, Nagaon, Assam. He has been awarded by Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan for his script 'Ishqlogy' at Cinestaan India's Storyteller's Script Contest in 2018. He is the first lyricist from Assam who writes Assamese songs in Bollywood film. He wrote the songs 'Jiri Jiri' for the film A Death In The Gunj and the bihu song for the film Jagga Jasoos. Again, he becomes the first screenwriter from Assam who signed a Bollywood film. He signed the film on 21 October 2019.
Surjya Kanta Hazarika is an Assamese litterateur, an eminent scholar, author, journalist, poet, publisher, playwright, lyricist, composer, cultural activist, feature film and documentary maker, social worker and philanthropist. Hazarika is a recipient of the Padma Shri Award in 2008 for his contribution to Literature & Education. He is the current president of Asam Sahitya Sabha.

Dr. Bezbaruah 2 is directed by late Assamese actor Nipon Goswami who was also the lead actor of Dr. Bezbarua. The story, screenplay and dialogues are written by Rajdweep and music by Zubeen Garg. It is produced by Sanjive Narain and co-produced by Akshata Narain under the banner AM Television. It is the 4th highest grossing Assamese film.
