Earthling in the City is a 6-track promotional CD by David Bowie that was distributed by GQ magazine with their November 1997 issue. The disc is largely made up of live performances and remixes of songs drawn from Bowie's albums Black Tie White Noise , Outside , and Earthling . [2]

Co-produced by Bowie and longtime collaborator Tony Visconti, it was recorded between January and May 2003 at Bowie's home studio and Looking Glass Studios in New York City and Mike Garson's home studio in California. A rock album, it was written mostly after production on Bowie's previous album Heathen wrapped up. It contains covers of the Modern Lovers' "Pablo Picasso" and George Harrison's "Try Some, Buy Some". The album has received positive reviews from music critics. He supported the album with the A Reality Tour throughout 2003 and 2004, his final concert tour. It was his last album of original material for ten years, until the release of The Next Day in 2013.
Earthling is the 20th studio album by English recording artist David Bowie. It was originally released in February 1997 by Arista and Virgin. Co-produced by Bowie, Reeves Gabrels and Mark Plati, it was recorded in 1996 at Mountain Studios in Montreux, Switzerland and Looking Glass Studios in New York City following the conclusion of the Outside Tour. The album showcases an electronica-influenced sound partly inspired by the industrial and drum and bass culture of the 1990s. Commercially, the album performed better than its more experimental predecessor Outside. Bowie supported the album on the Earthling Tour in 1997. The album was reissued with bonus tracks in 2004.
"I'm Afraid of Americans" is a song by English singer-songwriter David Bowie, released as a single from his 1997 album Earthling. The song, co-written by Bowie and Brian Eno, was originally written during Bowie's studio sessions for the 1995 album Outside but was not released until a rough mix appeared on the soundtrack to the film Showgirls, and was subsequently remade for Earthling. A top 20 hit in Canada, the rework also peaked at number 66 on the Billboard Hot 100 and spent 16 weeks on that chart. This was the final Bowie single which charted on the Hot 100 until "Blackstar" and "Lazarus" following his death.

A member and guitarist of British band The Cure since 2012, Gabrels worked with David Bowie from 1987 to 1999, and was a member of the band Tin Machine. He has lived in New York, Boston, London, Los Angeles, Nashville, and New York's Hudson Valley. His Nashville-based band since 2007, Reeves Gabrels & His Imaginary Friends, features Gabrels on guitar and vocals.
