The Eklavya India Foundation is a non-profit organisation based in India. [1] [2]
Eklavya India Foundation was founded in May 2017. [3]
The foundation works with first-generation college students [4] from historically marginalised groups, such as Adivasi, Dalit, nomadic tribes, and OBC's to help them access higher education, break the cycle of poverty, and become role models in their communities. [5] [6]
Eklavya serves as a support system, providing mentorship, training, and guidance to first-generation learners from historically underrepresented communities of Maharashtra. This empowers them to pursue education at premier Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) while fostering grassroots leadership in academia, policy, law, media, and development. The foundation trains students for undergraduate and postgraduate educational opportunities and conducts career-building training programs for graduates. [7] [8] [9]
Between 2017 and 2022, 25,000 students from rural and tribal areas participated in career awareness workshops organised by the foundation. With their help, 1200 first-generation students were able to enroll in 80 different Universities and fellowship programs including Central Universities, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Indian Institutes of Technology, and Indian Institutes of Management, among many others. In all, they have provided 0.8 million hours of career counseling and mentoring. [10] [11] [12] [13]
The Eklavya Global Scholars Program (GSP) helps students prepare for master's and PhD programs in top universities worldwide, focusing on humanities, social sciences, and STEM fields. [14] [15] [16] The program addresses the underrepresentation of students from marginalised communities in India at the Global level, the pilot batch saw over 60 first-generation students, with 50 receiving offers from Ivy League and tier-2 universities in Europe and the United States. Ashok Saraf is an Indian actor and comedian, known for his work in Marathi and Hindi films along with theatre in both languages. Saraf has received several awards including four Filmfare Marathi Awards. He is referred to as the Mahanayak, Ashok Samrat or Mama of the Marathi film industry. In 2023, he received the Maharashtra Bhushan, the highest civilian honour in the Indian state of Maharashtra.
Prabha Atre was an Indian classical vocalist from the Kirana gharana. She was awarded all three of the Padma Awards by the Government of India. She died after experiencing breathing difficulty in the early hours and was taken to Dinanath Mangeshkar Hospital. She died from cardiac arrest before reaching the hospital. Atre died on 13 January 2024, at the age of 91.

Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS) is a Government of India scheme for model residential school, specifically for Scheduled Tribes across India. It is one of the flagship interventions of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India and was introduced in the year 1997-98 to ensure tribal students get access to quality education in the remote tribal areas. EMRSs are set up in States/UTs with grants under Article 275(1) of the Constitution of India. As per the budget 2018-19, every block with more than 50% ST population and at least 20,000 tribal persons, will have an Eklavya Model Residential School by the year 2022.

Sumitra Bhave and Sunil Sukthankar were an Indian filmmaker duo working predominantly in Marathi cinema and Marathi theatre. Bhave and Sukthankar had made seventeen feature films, more than fifty short films, and four TV serials; all of which had been written by Bhave. Sunil Sukthankar, a Film and Television Institute of India graduate (1989) is also an actor and a lyricist. He has written more than 90 songs for their own films as well as various other Marathi and Hindi films. The duo had won various national and international accolades for the films Doghi (1995), Dahavi Fa (2002), Vastupurush (2002), Devrai (2004), Astu (2016) and Kaasav (2017). At the 64th National Film Awards, their feature film Kaasav won the prestigious President Golden Lotus National Award.
