It was renamed Northern Province in 1999 and Limpopo in 2004. It is conterminous with the province of Limpopo. The constituency currently elects 19 of the 400 members of the National Assembly using the closed party-list proportional representation electoral system. At the 2019 general election it had 2,608,460 registered electors.

She was formerly a Member of the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Legislature from 1999 to 2004 and chaired the KwaZulu-Natal branch of the ANC Women's League from 2008 to 2012. She was elected to five-year terms on the ANC's National Executive Committee in 2012 and 2022.
Mzameni Richard Mdakane is a South African politician who has represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the National Assembly since March 2023 and previously from 2009 until 2019,when he failed to gain re-election. Before that,he represented the party in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature for fifteen years from 1994 to 2009;he also served a term as Speaker of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature from 2004 to 2009.
Motalane Dewet Monakedi is a South African politician who has been a member of the National Assembly of South Africa since March 2023,representing the African National Congress. He previously served as a Permanent Delegate to the National Council of Provinces from March 2017 to May 2019. Monakedi served in the Limpopo Provincial Legislature from 1996 until 2000 and as the Executive Mayor of the Capricorn District Municipality between 2000 and 2010. Within the ANC in Limpopo,he served as provincial treasurer from 2005 until 2008.
Shahidabibi Shaikh is a South African politician who has been the Chairperson of the Select Committee on Security and Justice in the National Council of Provinces since 2019. A member of the African National Congress,she has been a permanent delegate to the NCOP from Limpopo since 2019. Shaikh had previously served in the Limpopo Provincial Legislature from 2014 to 2019.

Letsau Nelson Diale was a South African politician and anti-apartheid activist from Limpopo. He joined the African National Congress (ANC) in 1956 and served eight years' imprisonment on Robben Island,from 1964 to 1972,for his work with Umkhonto we Sizwe. After the end of apartheid,he represented the ANC in the National Council of Provinces from 1994 to 1999 and in the National Assembly from 1999 to 2014.
Annelizévan Wyk is a South African politician who served in the National Assembly from 1999 to 2014,excepting a brief hiatus in 2009. She represented the United Democratic Movement (UDM) until April 2003,when she crossed the floor to the African National Congress (ANC). She chaired the Portfolio Committee on Police from 2012 to 2014.
Thabo Lucas Makunyane was a South African politician and former anti-apartheid activist. He was the first mayor of Limpopo's Polokwane Local Municipality from 2000 to 2010. He also served in the National Assembly from 1999 to 2000 and in the National Council of Provinces from 2012 to 2014.
Mahwidi John "Mokgomana" Phala was a South African politician and former anti-apartheid activist from Limpopo. He represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the Limpopo Provincial Legislature from 1994 to 1999 and in the National Assembly from 1999 to 2009.
Peter Mampogoane Nchabeleng was a South African trade unionist and anti-apartheid activist who died in police detention in the Lebowa bantustan in April 1986. At the time of his death,he was the inaugural chairperson of the United Democratic Front in the Northern Transvaal and head of the underground African National Congress (ANC) in the same region.
