Initially, the USFSA intended to send three teams to the Olympic Games, so they listed a total of 29 players for this would-be squad, which included the likes of Pierre Allemane, Georges Bon, René Camard, Jacques Davy, Henri Guerre, Félix Julien, Eugène Maës, Henri Mouton, Eugène Nicolaï, Ernest Tossier, Charles Wilkes, Paul Zeiger, and Jules Verbrugge. Club Olympique de Roubaix-Tourcoing was a football club based in Roubaix, France. The team was founded in 1945 in a merge of three clubs: Excelsior AC Roubaix, RC Roubaix and US Tourcoing. In the 1946–47 season, the club won the Division 1. The club later fell into the lower levels of French football and was eventually dissolved on 15 June 1970.

Iris Club lillois was an all-sports club based in Lille, France, which was founded in 1898. The club won two USFSA North Championships in 1899 and 1901. The football section of the Iris Club ceased to exist in 1941, when it merged with Olympique Lille to form Olympique Iris Club Lillois which later became Lille OSC. Apart from the football section, the club includes sports sections dedicated to tennis, rugby, and even field hockey, the latter two being founded in 1924.

The Coupe Manier was a football competition in France that ran from 1897 until 1911. Only clubs that fielded no more than three foreigners were allowed to participate in the competition, which at the time was mainly British people living and residing in Paris. It was named in honor of the donor of the trophy, Mr. Manier, president of the Paris Star.
