As of the census [4] of 2000, there were 1,549 people, 666 households, and 404 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 520.7 inhabitants per square mile (201.0/km2). There were 770 housing units at an average density of 258.8 per square mile (99.9/km2). The racial makeup of the CDP was 98.39% White, 0.32% Black or African American, 0.06% Native American, 0.26% Pacific Islander, 0.06% from other races, and 0.90% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.32% of the population.
There were 666 households, out of which 26.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.1% were married couples living together, 10.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 39.2% were non-families. 33.3% of all households were made up of individuals, and 15.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.22 and the average family size was 2.83.
