Gamble Mill, also known as Lamb Mill, Thomas Mill, Wagner Mill, and Bellefonte Flouring Mill, is an historic grist mill located at Bellefonte, Centre County, Pennsylvania.

Located in the Bellefonte Historic District, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1975. [1]

History and architectural features

Built in 1894, Gamble Mill is a three-and-one-half-story brick building that was erected on a limestone foundation. There have been two, one-story brick additions. [2]

This historic structure features a stepped gable, with a full gabled attic. It replaced a mill that had been built on this site in 1786, but was destroyed by fire in 1892. The mill ceased being used for grinding grain in 1947. [2]

It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1975. It is located in the Bellefonte Historic District. [1]

It was built in 1913, and is a two-story, rectangular brick industrial building measuring 51 feet, 6 inches, wide and 150 feet long. A one-story brick addition was built in 1967. In 2001, it was adapted for use as an apartment building. It housed a silk mill, and later clothing manufacturers, until its conversion.

Bellefonte Historic District is a national historic district located at Bellefonte, Centre County, Pennsylvania. The district encompasses 296 contributing buildings in the central business district and surrounding residential area of Bellefonte. The oldest building in the district is the Col. James Dunlop House dated to 1795. Notable non-residential buildings include the St. John's Roman Catholic Church, Crider Exchange (1889), Temple Court Building (1894), First National Bank Building, W.F. Reynolds and Co. Bank Building, and Pennsylvania Railroad Station. Located in the district and listed separately are the Brockerhoff Hotel, Centre County Courthouse, Gamble Mill, McAllister-Beaver House, and Miles-Humes House. The Bellefonte Academy and the Bush House Hotel were previously listed on the register until they burned to the ground in 2004 and 2006, respectively.

Potter–Allison Farm is a historic farm complex and national historic district located at Potter Township, Centre County, Pennsylvania. The district includes nine contributing buildings and one contributing site in Centre Hall. The district includes the Potter–Allison House, 19th century wood barn, and a variety of outbuildings including a hog barn, equipment buildings, corn crib, stone slaughterhouse, and a springhouse. Also on the property are the remains of milling and tanning operations. The Georgian-style house was built about 1817, with a Victorian addition dating to the 1850s. It is a 2 1/2-story brick dwelling. The property was originally owned and developed by General James Potter (1729–1789), who built a log cabin and grist mill. The property was acquired by the locally prominent Allison family in 1849.

Brockerhoff Hotel is a historic hotel located at Bellefonte, Centre County, Pennsylvania. It was built in 1866, and is a large brick building on a stone foundation, measuring 170 feet by 60 feet. The original building was executed in the Italianate style. It was renovated in the 1880s to have a mansard roof in a combined Second Empire / Queen Anne style. The roof features multicolored slate. The building was built by Henry Brockerhoff (1794-1878), who also built the Brockerhoff Mill.

The ell was the original home, built 1798 to 1800, and the main house was built in 1818.The house and iron furnace were built by John Dunlop. As of 1826 the furnace was capable of 1200 tons of pig iron per year. The stone house, a few large mill stones, and an iron workers house are still visible. Bellefonte Academy was a historic school building located at Bellefonte, Centre County, Pennsylvania. The original building was built in 1805, as a two-story, rectangular limestone building. It was enlarged between 1839 and 1845, with the addition of two bays and wings to the north and south. After a fire in 1904, the building was rebuilt with the addition of a third story and the addition of a portico with six Tuscan order columns and Classical Revival style details. The wings were enlarged in 1913. Also on the property was the headmaster's house.

Reading Knitting Mills is a historic factory building located in Reading, Berks County, Pennsylvania. It was built in 1891, and expanded in 1898, and about 1920. It is a four-story, 15 bay by 4 bay, brick building with Italianate style influences. It has a corbelled brick cornice and slate covered gable roof. It has a brick boiler house annex and one-story addition built in 1898. The fourth floor was added to the original three-story building about 1920.
