The Greengairs Landfill is a landfill site in Scotland that receives non-hazardous household, commercial and industrial waste from the North Lanarkshire area. Greengairs was opened in 1990 and features landfill gas collection systems which are used to generate electricity for export into the National Grid.
The landfill is owned and operated by FCC Environment.
Plesetsk Cosmodrome is a Russian spaceport located in Mirny, Arkhangelsk Oblast, about 800 km north of Moscow and approximately 200 km south of Arkhangelsk, the cosmodrome dates to 1957. Originally developed as an ICBM site for the R-7 missile, it also served for numerous satellite launches using the R-7 and other rockets. Its high latitude makes it useful only for certain types of launches, especially the Molniya orbits, so for much of the site's history it functioned as a secondary location, with most orbital launches taking place from Baikonur, in the Kazakh SSR. With the end of the Soviet Union, Baikonur became a foreign territory, and Kazakhstan charged $115 million usage fees annually. Consequently, Plesetsk has seen considerably more activity since the 2000s.

Avondale Environmental, better known as Avondale Landfill, is a major Scottish landfill located in Polmont, off junction 4 of the M9 motorway. Avondale takes large volumes of waste from the Forth Valley and some from West Lothian. Avondale has the ability to accept Non-Hazardous, Stable Non-Reactive Hazardous waste including asbestos/gypsum and compliant hazardous wastes. This is the first and currently only landfill with the ability to accept hazardous waste to landfill in Scotland under the Landfill Directive.

Millerhill Recycling and Energy Recovery Centre is a recycling and waste incineration facility at Millerhill in Midlothian, near Edinburgh in Scotland. It was built on part of the site of the Millerhill Marshalling Yard; construction began in October 2016 and the plant opened fully in September 2019. Commissioned by the City of Edinburgh Council and Midlothian Council, the plant cost £142 million and will divert 155,000 tons of waste a year from going to landfill. It burns treated waste to generate electricity which is fed into the National Grid. The plant uses combustion and XeroSorp flue gas treatment from Hitachi Zosen Inova. This is a dry adsorption system which uses sodium bicarbonate to clean the exhaust.
