Gurbakshish Singh (1911-1983) was an Indian politician. He was Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) who represented the Barnala Constituency,in Punjab. [1] [2]
Singh was born in 1911 to the royal family of Karamgarh (now Barnala District) and was a wealthy landlord of the erstwhile Patiala State,he was titled as the Rais of Karamgarh. According to the revenue records and census reports of year 1901 the area of nizamat of Karamgarh was 1834 sq miles which included 4 towns and 665 villages with a population of 500,635 people.
He was an active sportsman and a part of the elite cricket team of Chiefs College,Lahore (Aitchison College),played tennis,horse riding and shooting. The village of Karamgarh is named after Karam Singh who succeeded the throne of Maharaja of Patiala in 1813 and ruled until his death in 1845. Later on Mahendra Singh of Patiala,his younger son Raja Sahib Sir Ranbir Singh KCSI born 1873 was married to the daughter of Sardar Lahna singh of Karamgarh in 1889,he was made a KCSI in January 1903;he was granted the title of Raja in 1915.
His father Rais Gurbaksh Singh of Karamgarh was an Honorary Magistrate and exercised civil and criminal powers in the nizamat of Karamgarh. Gurbaksh Singh was married into the old family of the Wazir’s of the princely state of Nabha. His brother in law,General Shivdev Singh,was a wealthy landlord and the Prime Minister of the Nabha State. Gurbaksh Singh had 3 sisters who were married into the Royal families of Patiala State,Nabha State and Raja of Malaudh.
He became actively associated with the Congress Party while attending Aitchison College in Lahore,Pakistan. He was related to Yadavindra Singh who was Maharaja of Patiala and Raja Bhalindra Singh,had close proximity with Mohammad Reza Pahlavi who was the Shah of Iran,took the title of Shahanshah ("King of Kings") in 1967 and ruled from 1941-1979 as the last Shah of Iran.
Gurbakshish Singh’s nephews,Amarinder Singh,is currently serving as the 15th Chief Minister of Punjab in India and Raja Randhir Singh is a sports administrator and an ex-Olympian shooter.

A diploma holder alongside Iftikhar Ali Khan Pataudi who was Nawab of Pataudi and his younger brother Sher Ali Khan Pataudi who later served in the Pakistan Army,Amin ud-din Ahmad Khan who was the last Nawab of princely state of Loharu,ruling from 1926 to 1947,Nawab Malik Amir Mohammad Khan who was a prominent feudal lord,politician and the chief of his tribal estate Kalabagh in North Western Punjab,Pakistan who later served as the Governor of West Pakistan and Yadavindra Singh,Maharaja of Patiala. He returned to Patiala after completing his education.
He became an influential figure in agricultural development and the spread of education in India. He was an active member of the Indian National Congress and of the AD state party and he was a key figure in the Punjabi Suba movement agitation for the creation of “Punjabi Suba”which led to the creation of present day Punjab and Haryana in 1966.
Singh was twice an MLA including his first term from Sherpur in 1954 in the Patiala &East Punjab States Union from Indian National Congress and then won the elections from Barnala in 1962 when he defeated Sampuran Singh Dhaula a close aide of the then Chief minister of Punjab Partap Singh Kairon.Singh served as an advisor to Shiromani Akali Dal in 1960’s for a short tenure before quitting politics. He also served as the President of Khalsa college,Patiala unanimous for more than 20 years.
Singh was involved in national reconstruction work and the development of services for the Dalit caste and the downtrodden. He helped organize relief during the 1955 floods and donated 22,000 Bighas of cultivable land to his tenants.

General Nawab Sir Sadiq Muhammad Khan V Abbasi was the Nawab,and later Amir,of Bahawalpur State from 1907 to 1966. He became the Nawab on the death of his father when he was only three years old. A Council of Regency,with Sir Rahim Bakhsh as its President,ruled on his behalf until 1924.
Amarinder Singh,known publicly as Captain Amarinder Singh,is an Indian politician,military historian,author,former royal and former veteran who served as the 15th Chief Minister of Punjab. An elected Member of the Legislative Assembly from Patiala,he was also the president of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee,the state division of the Indian National Congress. He has also previously served as the Chief Minister of Punjab from 2002 to 2007. His father was the last Maharaja of the princely state of Patiala. He has also served in the Indian Army from 1963 to 1966. In 1980,he won a seat in the Lok Sabha for the first time. As of February 2021,Singh also serves as the chairman of the Punjab Urdu Academy. Captain Singh resigned as the Chief Minister of Punjab on 18 September 2021.

The Punjab cricket team is a first-class cricket team that represents the Indian state of Punjab. They have qualified for only one Ranji Trophy semi-final in the last five seasons,and made it to the final in 2004–05 tournament,where they lost to Railways on first innings. They also play in other domestic cricket tournaments in India. They have only been winners of the Ranji Trophy once,in the 1992–93 season.

Sikhism was coined by Guru Gobind Singh Ji. He was the tenth Guru of the 17 century in the Punjab region in the northern part of the Indian subcontinent. The Faith practices were formalised by Guru Gobind Singh Ji on 13 April 1699. The latter baptised five Sikh people from different parts of India and had different social backgrounds to form Khalsa (ਖ਼ਾਲਸਾ). The first five,Pure Ones,then baptised Gobind Singh ji into the Khalsa fold. This gives the order of Khalsa,a history of around 300 years.

Maharaja Sir Yadavinder Singh was the 9th and last ruling Maharaja of Patiala from 1938 to 1971. He was also an Indian cricketer who played in one Test in 1934.
Malaudh State was a Cis-Sutlej princely state of India during the British Raj until India's independence in 1947. The town of Malaudh,or Maloud,is situated at a distance of about 40 kilometres from Ludhiana on the Ludhiana-Malerkotla Road and is linked by approach road kup-payal road though village Rorian which is now part of it as Nagar Panchayat. It lies on 75°- 56' Longitude and 30°–38' Latitude. Malaudh is a very ancient place which was known as Malla Udey or rise of the Mallas with whom Multan or Mallustan is associated and later got corrupted to Malaudh. There was a The Loharan about 1 kilometer on the southern side which has now disappeared. Malaudh has a government high school (co-educational),middle school for girls and a primary school for boys,a post office,primary health centre and a veterinary dispensary. Malaudh became a part of the Ludhiana District when it was formed out of the territories annexed by the British in 1846.
Pratap Singh Nabha was the last ruling Maharaja of Nabha. The state of Nabha was merged into India in 1948. It was annexed to Patiala and the East Punjab States Union,a new political administrative unit that comprised all the states of the Punjab.
Major Sardar Joginder Singh Baidwan was an Indian athlete. Born in Manakmajra in Ambala District,he was one of the greatest sportsmen that Patiala produced. He was educated at Aitchison's College "Chief's" Lahore and was married to the sister of Colonel Sardar Bahadur Joginder Singh Mann of Montgomery District.
Karamgarh is a village in the Barnala district,Punjab,India. The village is about 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) far from the city of Barnala,on the Barnala to Malerkotla road. The revenue records and census reports of year 1901 show that the area of nizamat of Karamgarh was 1834sq miles which included four towns and 665 villages with a population of 500,635 people and a population of 273.0 per square mile.
Akali Phula Singh Nihang was an Akali Nihang Sikh leader. He was a saint soldier of the Khalsa Shaheedan Misl and head of the Budha Dal in the early 19th century. He was also a senior general in the Sikh Khalsa Army and commander of the irregular Nihang of the army. He played a role in uniting Sikh misls in Amritsar. He was not afraid of the British who at many times ordered for his arrest but were not successful. During his later years he served for the Sikh Empire as a direct adviser to Maharajah Ranjit Singh. He remained an army general in many famous Sikh battles up until his martyrdom in the battle of Naushera. He was admired by the local people and had a great influence over the land and his settlement was always open to help the poor and helpless. He was well known and was a humble unique leader and prestigious warrior with high character. He was also known for his effort to maintain the values of Gurmat and the Khalsa panth.
The New Year Honours 1903,announced at the time as the Durbar Honours,were appointments to various orders and honours of the United Kingdom and British India. The list was announced on the day of the 1903 Delhi Durbar held to celebrate the succession of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra as Emperor and Empress of India. The membership of the two Indian Orders were expanded to allow for all the new appointments.
