HD 50554 b is a Jupiter-sized exoplanet with a minimum mass 4.4 times that of Jupiter. The planet was announced in 2001 by the European Southern Observatory and formally published in 2002 using observations from the Lick and Keck telescopes. [1] [2] In 2023, the inclination and true mass of HD 50554 b were determined via astrometry. [3]
HD 82943 is a yellow dwarf star approximately 89 light-years away in the constellation of Hydra. Two extrasolar planets have been confirmed to be orbiting it, and it is thought that the system had more giant planets that were "swallowed" by the parent star. HD 82943 is estimated at 1.15 times the mass of the Sun.
HD 169830 is a star in the southern constellation of Sagittarius. It has a yellow-white hue and is dimly visible to the naked eye with an apparent visual magnitude of +5.90. The star is located at a distance of 120 light years from the Sun based on parallax. It is drifting closer with a radial velocity of −17.3 km/s, and is predicted to come as close as 20.7 ly (6.4 pc) in 2.08 million years. HD 169830 is known to be orbited by two large Jupiter-like exoplanets.
HD 10647 is a 6th-magnitude yellow-white dwarf star, 57 light-years away in the constellation of Eridanus. The star is visible to the unaided eye under very dark skies. It is slightly hotter and more luminous than the Sun, and at 1.75 billion years old, it is also younger. An extrasolar planet was discovered orbiting this star in 2003.
HD 20367 is a star in the constellation of Aries, close to the border with the Perseus constellation. It is a yellow-white hued star that is a challenge to view with the naked eye, having an apparent visual magnitude of 6.40. Based upon parallax measurements, it is located 85 light years from the Sun. It is drifting further away with a radial velocity of +6.5 km/s. Based upon its movement through space, it is a candidate member of the Ursa Major Moving Group of co-moving stars that probably share a common origin.
HD 28185 is a yellow dwarf star similar to the Sun located 128 light-years away from Earth in the constellation Eridanus. The designation HD 28185 refers to its entry in the Henry Draper catalogue. The star is known to possess one long-period extrasolar planet.
HD 38529 is a binary star approximately 138 light-years away in the constellation of Orion.
HD 142 is a wide binary star system in the southern constellation of Phoenix. The main component has a yellow-white hue and is dimly visible to the naked eye with an apparent visual magnitude of 5.7. HD 28185 b is an extrasolar planet 128 light-years away from Earth in the constellation of Eridanus. The planet was discovered orbiting the Sun-like star HD 28185 in April 2001 as a part of the CORALIE survey for southern extrasolar planets, and its existence was independently confirmed by the Magellan Planet Search Survey in 2008. HD 28185 b orbits its sun in a circular orbit that is at the inner edge of its star's habitable zone.
Pi Mensae b, also known as HD 39091 b, is an extrasolar planet approximately 60 light-years away in the constellation of Mensa. The planet was announced orbiting the yellow main-sequence star Pi Mensae in October 2001.
HD 136118 is a star in the Serpens Caput section of the Serpens constellation. The star is too dim to be readily visible to the naked eye, having an apparent visual magnitude of 6.93. It is located at a distance of 165 light years from the Sun based on parallax, and is drifting closer with a radial velocity of −3 km/s.
Gliese 86 is a K-type main-sequence star approximately 35 light-years away in the constellation of Eridanus. It has been confirmed that a white dwarf orbits the primary star. In 1998 the European Southern Observatory announced that an extrasolar planet was orbiting the star.
HD 8574 is a single star in the equatorial constellation of Pisces. It can be viewed with binoculars or a telescope, but not with the naked eye having a low apparent visual magnitude of +7.12. The distance to this object is 146 light years based on parallax, and it has an absolute magnitude of 3.88. The star is drifting further away from the Sun with a radial velocity of +18 km/s. It has a relatively high proper motion, advancing across the celestial sphere at the rate of 0.298 arc seconds per annum.
HD 50554 is a single, Sun-like star with an exoplanetary companion in the northern constellation of Gemini. It has an apparent visual magnitude of +6.84, which makes it a 7th magnitude star; it is not visible to the naked eye, but can be viewed with binoculars or a telescope. The system is located at a distance of 101 light-years from the Sun based on parallax, but is drifting closer with a radial velocity of −4 km/s.
HD 106252 is a star with a brown dwarf companion in the constellation Virgo. An apparent visual magnitude of 7.41 means this star is too faint to be visible to the naked eye. It is located at a distance of 210 light years from the Sun based on parallax measurements, and is receding with a radial velocity of 15 km/s.
HD 117207 is a star in the southern constellation Centaurus. With an apparent visual magnitude of 7.24, it is too dim to be visible to the naked eye but can be seen with a small telescope. Based upon parallax measurements, it is located at a distance of 105.4 light-years from the Sun. The star is drifting closer with a radial velocity of −17.4 km/s. It has an absolute magnitude of 4.67.
HD 117207 b is an exoplanet orbiting at 3.77 astronomical units around HD 117207, taking about 7.14 years to complete its orbit. Its orbit has a low to moderate eccentricity. This planet was announced in January 2005 by Marcy at the Keck Observatory. HD 117207 b has a minimum mass of 1.88 Jupiter masses, and in 2023 its inclination and true mass were determined via astrometry.
HD 210277 b is an extrasolar planet orbiting the star HD 210277. It was discovered in September 1998 by the California and Carnegie Planet Search team using the highly successful radial velocity method. The planet is at least 24% more massive than Jupiter. The mean distance of the planet from the star is slightly more than Earth's distance from the Sun. However, the orbit is very eccentric, so at periastron this distance is almost halved, and at apastron it is as distant as Mars is from the Sun.
HD 106252 b is a large gas giant extrasolar planet about 10 times more massive than Jupiter. It was announced in 2001 by the European Southern Observatory. The discovery was confirmed by a different team using the Lick Telescope.
HD 102117 b, formally named Leklsullun, is a planet that orbits the star HD 102117. The planet is a small gas giant a fifth the size of Jupiter. It orbits very close to its star, but not in a "torch orbit" like the famous 51 Pegasi b. It was one of the smallest extrasolar planets discovered as of 2006.
An exoplanet is a planet located outside the Solar System. The first evidence of an exoplanet was noted as early as 1917, but was not recognized as such until 2016; no planet discovery has yet come from that evidence. What turned out to be the first detection of an exoplanet was published among a list of possible candidates in 1988, though not confirmed until 2003. The first confirmed detection came in 1992, with the discovery of terrestrial-mass planets orbiting the pulsar PSR B1257+12. The first confirmation of an exoplanet orbiting a main-sequence star was made in 1995, when a giant planet was found in a four-day orbit around the nearby star 51 Pegasi. Some exoplanets have been imaged directly by telescopes, but the vast majority have been detected through indirect methods, such as the transit method and the radial-velocity method. As of 1 December 2023, there are 5,550 confirmed exoplanets in 4,089 planetary systems, with 887 systems having more than one planet. This is a list of the most notable discoveries.
