The FISU World University Games, formerly the Universiade, is an international multi-sport event, organized for university athletes by the International University Sports Federation (FISU). The former name is a portmanteau of the words "University" and "Olympiad".
The Millennium Centar is a multi-purpose indoor arena located in the city of Vršac. It is the home ground of basketball club KK Vršac and ŽKK Vršac and has a capacity of 4,400 seats. The arena is also used for concerts and other live entertainment.

Figure skating is a part of the FISU World University Games. It was first held as part of the Universiade in 1960. Medals may be awarded in men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, ice dancing, and synchronized skating.
The 2015 Winter Universiade, the XXVII Winter Universiade, was a multi-sport winter event with the host ducties were shared by Granada, Spain and Štrbské Pleso, Slovakia. On 14 March 2009, FISU announced that the host would be Granada because they were the only bid.
The 2015 Summer Universiade was a Universiade held in the city of Gwangju, South Korea. It took place from July 3 to July 14, 2015. Gwangju also hostes the group matches of the 2002 FIFA World Cup.
The 1937 International University Games were organised by the Confederation Internationale des Etudiants (CIE) and held in Paris, France. Held from 21–29 August, 22 nations competed in fourteen sports. Boxing, cycling, field hockey, handball, and shooting all made their first appearance at the games. The gymnastics competition was dropped, however, and did not appear again until 1961. This tournament marked the first appearance of a South American nation, in the form of Brazil.
