Heroic (stylized as HEROIC) is a Norwegian esports organization [2] with teams competing in Counter-Strike 2 , PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds , Sim racing and Rainbow Six Siege . [3]

Contents

The esports organization is best known for its Global Offensive team, [4] and has made it to the playoffs of PGL Major Stockholm 2021, [5] PGL Major Antwerp 2022 [6] and Blast.tv Paris Major 2023. [7]

They also placed 2nd at IEM Rio Major 2022, losing to Outsiders [lower-alpha 1] in the grand finals. [8]

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

History

The organization was founded in Denmark on 26 August 2016 by with the initial roster being composed of future Astralis in-game leader Lukas "gla1ve" Rossander, Michael "Friis" Jørgensen, Valdemar "valde" Vangså, Marco "Snappi" Pfeiffer, and Andreas "MODDII" Fridh. They became a part of RFRSH Entertainment before being sold to Seranades Global in 2018. [9] In February 2021, Heroic was acquired by Norwegian organization Omaken Sports. [10] [11]

On 11 April 2022, Heroic won ESL Pro League Season 13 and qualified for the BLAST Premier World Final 2021 after Casper "cadiaN" Møller won a one-versus-four against Gambit Esports in the grand finals of the tournament. [12] [13] Shortly after, the team announced that it had purchased a member team spot in BLAST Premier. [14] [2] The team is also partnered with tournament organizer ESL, with a guaranteed spot in the ESL Pro League. [15]

At the PGL Major Antwerp 2022, Heroic made it to the quarterfinals before losing to Natus Vincere. [6]

At the IEM Rio Major 2022, Heroic reached the finals, but lost to Outsiders. [lower-alpha 1] [8]

Heroic reached the semifinals of the Blast.tv Paris Major 2023, losing 1-2 to GamerLegion in an upset. [7]

Following a 4-6th place finish at the BLAST Premier Spring Groups 2023 on 29 January 2023, [16] Heroic qualified for the Spring Finals, where they came first following a 2-1 victory over Team Vitality. [17]

History

On 4 October 2023, Heroic announced the benching of cadiaN. [31] He was replaced by Peter "dupreeh" Rasmussen on October 23, signing until the end of 2023. [32] Two days later, on 25 October, Heroic announced the temporary benchings of Martin "stavn" Lund and Jakob "jabbi" Nygaard following claims that the pair allegedly demanded the removal of cadiaN in exchange for contract extensions, before communicating their intentions to join Astralis. The players were replaced by MOUZ academy players William "sirah" Kjærsgaard and Christoffer "⁠Chr1zN⁠" Storgaard [33] for Thunderpick World Championship 2023 and Roobet Cup 2023, where the team finished 5-8th and 9-12th respectively. [34] [35]

On 30 October 2023, ahead of Blast Premier Fall Final 2023, Heroic announced that cadiaN would return to the roster for the tournament as a stand-in. [36] Two days later, Heroic confirmed their roster for the event, after naming Rasmus "Zyphon" Nordfoss as a stand-in, signing on loan from Sprout. [37] Heroic lost in the opening round of the tournament in a 2-0 loss against Team Vitality, before defeating Astralis to qualify for the quarter-finals. [38] They were then eliminated after losing to Cloud9. [39]

Jabbi and stavn transferred to Astralis on 24 November 2023. [40]

Heroic announced the loan signing of Jason "salazar" Salazar, along with the continued loan of Zyphon, for Blast Premier World Final 2023. [41] Following the elimination of Heroic by MOUZ, [42] dupreeh became a free agent after his contract with the team expired.

Team Liquid signed cadiaN on 6 December 2023. [43] Later that month, on 12 December, Heroic announced the departure of Xizt. [44] He was replaced on 16 December 2023 by previous ENCE coach Eetu "sAw" Saha. [45] The Finnish coach would be joined by former ENCE teammate Guy "NertZ" Iluz the next day. [46] The organization announced the signing of Nico "nicoodoz" Tamjidi on 18 December 2023. [47] Heroic completed its roster rebuild on 21 December 2023 after the transfer of Damjan "kyxsan" Stoilkovski. [48]

dupreeh Danish professional gamer

Peter Rothmann Rasmussen, better known as dupreeh, is a Danish professional Counter-Strike 2 player for Preasy. He has played for Team Dignitas, Team SoloMid, Astralis, Team Vitality and Heroic. In 2023, he became the first and only player to win 5 majors in CS:GO, and to win 3 majors consecutively. Due to the Blast Paris Major 2023 being the last CS:GO major as a result of the subsequent PGL Major Copenhagen 2024 being played in the upcoming Counter-Strike 2, Rasmussen is the only player to participate in every CS:GO major.

Counter-Strike Major Championships, commonly known as the Majors, are Counter-Strike (CS) esports tournaments sponsored by Valve, the game's developer. The first Valve-recognized Major took place in 2013 in Jönköping, Sweden and was hosted by DreamHack with a total prize pool of US$250,000 split among 16 teams. This, along with the following 18 Majors, was played in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. Oleksandr Olehovych Kostyliev, better known as s1mple, is a Ukrainian professional Counter-Strike 2 player for Team Falcons, on loan from Natus Vincere. He is considered to be one of the best players in Counter-Strike history.

The PGL Major Stockholm 2021, also known as PGL Major 2021 or Stockholm 2021, was the sixteenth Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) Major Championship. It was held in Stockholm, Sweden at the Avicii Arena from October 26 to November 7, 2021. Twenty-four teams qualified via regional major rankings. It featured a US$2,000,000 prize pool, a rise from the $1,000,000 of previous Majors due to the absence of offline competition amid the COVID-19 pandemic. It was the second Major hosted by the Romanian organization PGL, after PGL Major: Kraków 2017. Stockholm 2021 was the first Major after a break caused by the COVID-19 pandemic following the StarLadder Major: Berlin 2019. The Major was won by Natus Vincere, who did not lose a single map throughout the tournament.

Robin Kool, better known as ropz, is an Estonian professional Counter-Strike 2 player for FaZe Clan. Kool has played in eight Majors and won the PGL Major Antwerp 2022.

It was held in Antwerp, Belgium at the Sportpaleis from May 9 to 22, 2022. Twenty-four teams participated, with most qualifying through regional tournaments. It featured a US$1,000,000 prize pool, half of the previous Major. It was the third Major hosted by the Romanian organization PGL, after PGL Major: Kraków 2017 and PGL Major Stockholm 2021. The Major would be won by FaZe Clan, the first international team in CS:GO history to win a Major.
