Hudak Peak

Hudak Peak ( 79°58′S81°40′W / 79.967°S 81.667°W / -79.967; -81.667 ) is a peak rising to 1,440 metres (4,720 ft) immediately south of Plummer Glacier in the Douglas Peaks of the Heritage Range, in the Ellsworth Mountains of Antarctica. It was named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names in 2004 after Curtis M. Hudak, a geologist on the United States Antarctic Research Program 1979–80 Ellsworth Mountains expedition. [1]

Buggisch Peak is a peak rising to 1,445 metres (4,740 ft), 1 nautical mile (2 km) southwest of Lester Peak, Edson Hills, in the Heritage Range, Ellsworth Mountains, Marie Byrd Land. It was mapped by the United States Geological Survey from surveys and from U.S. Navy aerial photographs, 1961–66, and named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names after Werner Buggisch, a German member of the field party with the United States Antarctic Research Program Ellsworth Mountains Expedition, 1979–80, led by Gerald F. Webers.

Kosco Peak is a prominent rock peak in the northern part of the Edson Hills, rising to about 1,650 metres (5,400 ft) between Drake Icefall and Hyde Glacier, in the Heritage Range, Ellsworth Mountains, Antarctica. It was mapped by the United States Geological Survey (USGS) from surveys and U.S. Navy aerial photographs from 1961 to 1966, and was named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names after William J. Kosco. Kosco was a topographic engineer at the USGS from 1952 to 1983 and was chief of the Polar Programs Office from 1975 to 1983, with responsibility for Antarctic mapping.

Gowan Glacier is a glacier about 15 nautical miles long in the Heritage Range of the Ellsworth Mountains of Antarctica, flowing north from the vicinity of Cunningham Peak in the Founders Escarpment to enter Minnesota Glacier just east of Welcome Nunatak. It was mapped by the United States Geological Survey from surveys and U.S. Navy air photos, 1961–66, and was named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names for Lieutenant Jimmy L. Gowan, U.S. Navy Medical Corps, officer in charge and doctor at Plateau Station in 1966.

The Douglas Peaks are the group of peaks standing south of Plummer Glacier in the southeast extremity of the Heritage Range, Ellsworth Mountains, Antarctica. They were named by the University of Minnesota Ellsworth Mountains Party, 1962–63, for Lieutenant Commander John Douglas, a U.S. Navy LC-47 Dakota pilot who flew to the area to evacuate one of the party for emergency appendectomy.

Pojeta Peak is a peak rising to about 1,500 m in the central part of Webers Peaks, 2 nautical miles (3.7 km) southeast of Bingham Peak, in the Heritage Range, Ellsworth Mountains, Antarctica. It was named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (US-ACAN) after John Pojeta, Jr., a United States Geological Survey (USGS) paleontologist from 1963 and a field party member and paleontologist with the United States Antarctic Research Program (USARP) Ellsworth Mountains Expedition of 1979–80.

Maagoe Peak is a peak, 1,850 metres (6,070 ft) high, at the north end of the Gifford Peaks in the Heritage Range of the Ellsworth Mountains, Antarctica. It was mapped by the United States Geological Survey from ground surveys and U.S. Navy air photos from 1961 to 1966, and was named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names for Steffen Maagoe, an ionospheric scientist at Eights Station in 1964.

Evans Peak is a prominent rock peak, 3,950 metres (12,960 ft) high, standing 3 nautical miles (6 km) east-northeast of Mount Ostenso in the Sentinel Range of the Ellsworth Mountains, Antarctica. It overlooks Rumyana Glacier to the north and Patton Glacier to the south. The peak was named by the University of Minnesota Geological Party to these mountains, 1963–64, for John Evans, a geologist with the party.

Fendorf Glacier is a broad glacier draining from the eastern slopes of the Gifford Peaks and flowing north to merge with Dobbratz Glacier, in the Heritage Range of the Ellsworth Mountains, Antarctica. It was mapped by the United States Geological Survey from ground surveys and U.S. Navy air photos, 1961–66, and was named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names for Lieutenant Commander James E. Fendorf, U.S. Navy, a pilot with Squadron VX-6 during Operation Deep Freeze 1966.

The Founders Peaks are a cluster of sharp peaks and ridges located just east of Founders Escarpment and between Minnesota Glacier and Gowan Glacier, in the Heritage Range of the Ellsworth Mountains in Antarctica. The peaks were mapped by the United States Geological Survey from surveys and U.S. Navy air photos, 1961–66. The name was applied by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names is association with the name Heritage Range.

Gould Spur is a spur, 3 nautical miles (6 km) long, that extends from Navigator Peak to the south side of Splettstoesser Glacier, in the Heritage Range of the Ellsworth Mountains, Antarctica. It was named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (2004) after Patricia Gould, a geologist on a U.S. Antarctic Research Program 1979–80 Ellsworth Mountains expedition.

Matney Peak is a mostly ice-free peak, 1,810 metres (5,940 ft) high, near the middle of the line of peaks on the east side of Webster Glacier in the Heritage Range of the Ellsworth Mountains, Antarctica. It was mapped by the United States Geological Survey from surveys and U.S. Navy air photos, 1961–1966, and was named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names for Chief Aviation Boatswain's Mate William R. Matney of the U.S. Navy who contributed significantly to improving fuel operations in Antarctica and, for a portion of Operation Deep Freeze 1966, acted as fuels officer.

MacDonald Peak is a peak rising to 1,940 metres (6,360 ft) midway between Shockey Peak and Mount Crawford near the north end of the main ridge of the Sentinel Range, Antarctica. It was discovered by Lincoln Ellsworth on his trans-Antarctic flight of November 23, 1935, and was named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (US-ACAN) in 1961 for William R. MacDonald of the Branch of Special Maps in the United States Geological Survey (USGS) who prepared the 1962 map of this range. Subsequently, MacDonald participated in numerous expeditions to Antarctica to supervise aerial photography used in preparing USGS maps of the continent. At the time of his death in 1977 he was Chief of the Branch of International Activities in the USGS and a member of the US-ACAN, part of the U.S. Board on Geographic Names.

Mount Macalester is a prominent peak rising to 2,480 metres (8,140 ft) in the central part of the Soholt Peaks, Heritage Range, Ellsworth Mountains, Antarctica. It was mapped by the United States Geological Survey from surveys and U.S. Navy aerial photographs from 1961 to 1966. The peak was named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names after Macalester College, the alma mater of Gerald F. Webers, the leader of the United States Antarctic Research Program Ellsworth Mountains Expedition of 1979–80. It was first climbed on December 28, 2013, by Ralf Laier, Pachi Ibarra and Seth Timpano in Alpine style during their traverse of the Soholt Peaks.

Holt Peak is a bare rock peak, 850 metres (2,800 ft) high, surmounting the northeast end of the Meyer Hills in the Heritage Range of Antarctica. It was mapped by the United States Geological Survey from surveys and U.S. Navy air photos from 1961 to 1966, and was named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names for William C. Holt, a United States Antarctic Research Program auroral scientist at Ellsworth Station in 1961.

Linder Peak is a somewhat lower, but very imposing peak standing immediately south of Mount Dolence in the Heritage Range, Ellsworth Mountains, Antarctica. It was mapped by the United States Geological Survey from surveys and U.S. Navy air photos from 1961 to 1966, and was named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names for Harold W. Linder, a geophysicist with the United States Antarctic Research Program Ross Ice Shelf party of 1961–62.

Elfring Peak is a peak in Antarctica rising to 2,600 metres (8,500 ft) between the lower part of Della Pia Glacier and Aster Glacier, where the two glaciers enter Thomas Glacier on the east side of the Sentinel Range, Ellsworth Mountains. It was named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names in 2006 after Christine A. Elfring, Director of the Polar Research Board of the United States National Academy of Sciences, 1996–2013.

The Liberty Hills are a line of rugged hills and peaks with bare rock eastern slopes, about 10 nautical miles (19 km) long, standing 7 nautical miles (13 km) northwest of the Marble Hills and forming part of the west wall of Horseshoe Valley, in the Heritage Range, Ellsworth Mountains, Antarctica. The Liberty Hills were mapped by the United States Geological Survey from ground surveys and U.S. Navy air photos, 1961–66. The name was applied by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names in association with the name Heritage Range. The remarkable High Nunatak towers east of the Hills.
