The Hurghada Museum is a museum in Hurghada, Egypt. The museum displays a collection of 2,000 artifacts, presenting the Egyptian civilization from prehistoric times to the Modern era. [1] It was officially inaugurated on 29 February 2020. [2]
The Hurghada Museum is considered the first museum of Egyptian antiquities in the city of Hurghada, the museum houses approximately 2,000 unique artifacts that embody the beauty and life of the Egyptians, most notably the statue of Meritamen, daughter of Ramesses II, and inscriptions and artworks reflecting ancient Egyptian civilization. [3] In addition, it features modern facilities such as an educational center, restaurants, and shops, making it a comprehensive cultural and entertainment destination in the city. [4] [5]
The Hurghada Museum is the first antiquities museum in the Red Sea Governorate. The idea for its creation arose due to the importance of this city, which is considered one of the most important tourist destinations in Egypt. It is the first museum built in cooperation with the private sector, and it was inaugurated by the prime minister in 2020. [5]
The museum's central theme focuses on presenting "the concept of beauty in Egypt" through artifacts that span over 5,000 years of history. [3] From the grandeur of Ancient Egyptian pharaohs to the artistic achievements of the Islamic period, each exhibit tells a story of a civilization that has captivated the world for millennia. [6] [7]
The museum consists of two floors containing a collection of artifacts that tell the story of Egyptian civilization, starting from ancient Egyptian times, up to the modern Egypt era. These pieces highlight the theme of the museum display, which revolves around the concept and aspects of beauty and luxury in Egypt in different eras. [8] Among the most prominent are a magnificent statue of Queen Meritamen, a painting of Princess Fatima Ismail, the remains of a sunken ship, and pieces of jewelry and everyday life tools from the era of the Muhammad Ali dynasty. The museum serves as a bridge between past and present, showcasing how beauty, art, and culture have remained central to Egyptian identity throughout the ages. [9] [10]
