Contents

Description

A very sticky long-haired perennial, often densely sprawling, the flowers are asymmetric (petals are placed in an upper position), golden yellow with purple throat and stamens and style long-protrude. After flowering the inflorescence elongates greatly and on withering small plants may form at their ends. The leaves are roundish to egg-shaped with irregular edges, long stalk (to 3 cm) and variable base. [3]

Similar species include: Hyoscyamus albus (flowers paler yellow, stamens not protruding), Hyoscyamus niger (plants upright, flowers lurid yellow with purple veins and speckles), and Ecballium elaterium (in its early vegetative stages, which has coarse hairs and very prominent net veins under the leaf).

Triteleia ixioides Species of flowering plant

Triteleia ixioides, known as prettyface or golden star, is a monocotyledon flowering plant in the genus Triteleia. It is native to northern and central California and southwestern Oregon, where it can be found in coastal and inland coniferous forests and other habitat. It is a perennial wildflower growing from a corm. It produces one to two basal leaves up to 50 centimeters long by 1.5 wide. The inflorescence arises on an erect stem up to 80 centimeters tall. It is an umbel-like cluster of several flowers each borne on a pedicel up to 7 centimeters long. The flowers are variable in size, measuring one to nearly three centimeters in length. They are pale to bright yellow, or sometimes purple-tinged white. There are six tepals with darker midveins in shades of green, brown, or purple. The lobes are funnel-shaped and may open flat or somewhat reflexed. The six stamens form a fused tube that protrudes from the corolla; they have broad, flat filaments and whitish, yellowish, or blue anthers.

Physochlaina Genus of flowering plants in the nightshade family Solanaceae

Physochlaina is a small genus of herbaceous perennial flowering plants belonging to the nightshade family, Solanaceae, found principally in the north-western provinces of China although one species occurs in Western Asia, while another is found as far east as those regions of Siberia abutting the eastern borders of Mongolia and, furthermore, not only in Mongolia itself, but also in the Chinese autonomous region of Inner Mongolia. Some sources maintain that the widespread species P. physaloides is found also in Japan, but the species is not recorded as being native in one of the few English-language floras of the country. The genus is a valuable one, since its species are not only of considerable medicinal value, being rich in tropane alkaloids, but also of ornamental value, three species having been grown for the purpose, although hitherto infrequently outside botanical gardens. Furthermore, the genus contains a species formerly used as an entheogen in Siberia.
