"IDGAF" is a song by Canadian rapper Drake featuring American rapper Yeat. It was released through OVO and Republic as the seventh track from Drake's eighth studio album, For All the Dogs , on October 6, 2023. The song was written alongside Play Boy Nick, Norma Winstone, John Taylor, and producers Bnyx and Sebastian Shah, .

Background

The two artists were first linked together in August 2023, after Yeat received a shoutout by Drake for his song "Bigger Then Everything". [3] On September 13, the rappers teamed up for a promotional campaign of Drake's NOCTA fashion collaboration with Nike. [4]

Composition

"IDGAF" was produced by Bnyx and Sebastian Shah [5] and starts out with a sample "The Tunnel" (1977) by Azimuth. Yeat later interrupts the intro and proceeds with his "droning" verse over "sci-fi synthesizers" [6] Over a running time of four minutes and 20 seconds, Drake and Yeat exchange hooks and verses on a "glitch-y bass thumper". [7] The "raucous bass-heavy" production, akin to "rage beats", [8] sees the rappers brag about their fame, talent and wealth, wasting "no energy" to think about people "beneath them". [9]

Critical reception

The staff of The Fader viewed the track as one of their favorite moments on the album. Writer Nadine Smith argued that, by simply serving as an "afterthought", Drake gives Yeat enough room to "do his thing and get weird". [6] On the contrary, Kyle Denis of Billboard ranked "IDGAF" as one of the five worst tracks on For All the Dogs, once again highlighting Yeat's guest appearance as a "victory" "above else". While Denis acknowledges that Drake does not sound out of place or "awkward" next to Yeat, the latter was seen as having been given his "golden opportunity", effectively seizing his moment. [9] Chris Richards of The Washington Post criticized Drake's performance on the track, labeling him a "cardboard cutout inserted" into what he thought was an otherwise "great Yeat track". [10]

Commercial performance

The song debuted at number one in Canada and on the Billboard Global 200, and at number two on the Billboard Hot 100. [11] In its second week, the song remained in the top ten in the US Billboard Hot 100, falling to number four. [12] The song also reached number one on the Billboard Streaming Songs chart, marking Drake's 20th number one record on said chart. [12]

It contains the dual singles "Omertà" and "Money in the Grave", with the latter featuring a guest appearance from American rapper Rick Ross, and later becoming Drake's 26th and Ross' 2nd number one respectively, on Billboard's Rhythmic Songs chart in August 2019. Multiple publications noted that the EP marks Drake's first release outside of the Cash Money Records and Young Money Records record labels. Instead, on streaming services, the release lists "2019 Frozen Moments, LLC, under exclusive licensing to Republic Records, a division of UMG Recordings, Inc". Billboard confirmed that Frozen Moments has previously been listed on additional OVO projects.

"7969 Santa" is a song by Canadian rapper Drake from his eighth studio album For All the Dogs (2023). Schaeferdieck, due to the song interpolating "Dog Days Are Over" by Florence + the Machine. While the song marks the first time that Sexyy Red has collaborated with both Drake and SZA, the latter two previously collaborated on "Slime You Out", which served as the lead single from For All the Dogs.

2093 is the fourth studio album by American rapper Yeat, released on February 16, 2024, through Capitol Records, Field Trip Recordings and Lyfestyle Corporation.
