Legislative elections were held in on 5 April 2004 for both houses of the People's Consultative Assembly of Indonesia. This included all 550 seats in the People's Representative Council and 128 seats of the newly-formed Regional Representative Council.

Muhammad Amien Rais is an Indonesian politician. He was one of the leaders of the reform movement that forced the resignation of President Suharto in 1998. A member of the National Mandate Party (PAN), he previously served as Minister Secretary of State (2007–2009), Minister of Transportation (2004–2007), and Minister of State for Research and Technology (2001–2004). He was also general Prabowo Subianto's running mate in the 2014 Indonesian presidential election, with the ticket being backed by a number of parties, including the Gerindra party, National Mandate Party, Prosperous Justice Party, United Development Party, the Crescent Star Party and Golkar.

The movement became the bedrock of the Islamist party Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) which was founded in 2002.

The Masyumi Party or generally known as the Masyumi Reborn Party is an Islamist extremist political party founded in Indonesia on November 7, 2020. The party was founded by Ahmad Yani, leader of the Action for Rescuing Indonesia Coalition. While the party claimed to be a spiritual successor of the original Masyumi Party which was disbanded in 1960 due to its involvement in PRRI rebellion, the party has a much stronger Islamic fundamentalist basis, due to being powered by Indonesian Islamist activists from the 212 Movement.
