Karimganj Junction Railway Station serves the Indian city of Karimganj in Assam. It belongs to Lumding railway division of Northeast Frontier Railway zone. It is located in Karimganj district. It is the fourth most busiest railway station in Barak Valley. It is also one of the three railway stations serving the city of Karimganj, the others being Longai and New Karimganj. It is one of the oldest railway station in India built in the year 1898 under Assam Bengal Railway. It consists of two platforms with a total of 15 halting trains. It serves as the main halt for all passenger trains from Silchar, Agartala, Dharmanagar, Dullabcherra, Badarpur, and Mahisasan. The station consists of a single Electric-Line.
The station was first inaugurated in 1898 under Assam Bengal Railway. Assam Bengal Railway was incorporated in 1892 to serve British-owned tea plantations in Assam. Assam Bengal Railway had III sections & Karimganj Junction come under Section I named as Comilla–Akhaura–Kulaura–Badarpur section opened in 1896–1898 and finally extended to Lumding in 1903. [1]
After gauge conversion, the station is connected to Tripura via the newly constructed New Karimganj railway station. [2] [3] [4] Following the construction of the New Karimganj railway station, railway traffic into Karimganj Junction has drastically reduced. All long-distance trains, including the Kanchenjunga Express, Humsafar Express, Rajdhani Express, Tripura Sundari Express, and Deoghar–Agartala Weekly Express, bypass the Karimganj Junction completely by short halting and passing through the New Karimganj railway station, instead.
The station contains two platforms serving several passengers. It also contains retiring rooms or passenger waiting rooms with proper sanitation facilities. The station is also upgraded with reservation facilities through ticket counters in the year 2003. Karimganj Junction is also upgraded with RailTel free WiFi facilities. [5] [6] [7]

The Lumding–Sabroom section is a railway line under Lumding railway division of Northeast Frontier Railway zone of Indian Railways. It is a single 1,676 mm broad-gauge track from Lumding in Nagaon District of Assam state to Agartala in West Tripura district of Tripura state. The 43 km-long 1,676 mm segment from Agartala southwards to Udaipur, Tripura was completed in 2016 and became operational on 23 January 2017. The remaining 70 km long track to Sabroom at the bank of Feni River at Bangladesh border was completed in 2019 and became operational on 3 October 2019.

Agartala Railway Station is located 5.5 km (3.4 mi) from Agartala in Tripura, India. It is the second capital city in northeast India to be connected to the country's railway map, moreover Agartala is the first state capital of independent India to be connected with a rail network. Before 2015 the 413-kilometre (257 mi) route was connected to Lumding with a metre-gauge track, but after the gauge conversion to broad gauge in 2016, the track is connected directly to Guwahati and the rest of India.

As of now, 170 stations across India are directly connected to Silchar railway station.

The Deoghar–Agartala Weekly Express is an Express train belonging to Northeast Frontier Railway zone that runs between Deoghar Junction in Jharkhand, India and Agartala in Tripura, India. It is currently being operated with 15625/15626 train numbers on a weekly basis.
Agartala – Lumding Express was a daily overnight train of Indian Railways. It was the only overnight MG express train from Tripura to Assam, connecting Tripura's capital city Agartala and Lumding. It was the longest overnight MG train journey in this section. The train service is suspended now as the route in which it used to run is now converted to BG from MG. This train was the only option for the passengers of Tripura and Karimganj, who were willing to travel by train to Lumding. It used to depart from Agartala as 15696 at 16:15 and from Lumding Junction as 15695 at 21:30. The train makes its main halt at Karimganj Junction for 25 mins on both sides & loco/rake reversals also takes place here. The train was hauled by the YDM-4 class of Lumding MG diesel loco shed locomotive. 15696 used to be connected with two locos, one in front and another in the rear for pulling and pushing its way to the height of Barail Range, from Harangajao to Jatinga. It had a length of 12 coaches with both AC & non - AC. The train used to pass through 36 tunnels in Barail Range made during British Era. Now this entire route is converted to Broad Gauge & the route from Ditokcherra to Mahur is totally diverted to another hill.
The 15617/15618 Guwahati–Dullabcherra Express is an Express train belonging to Northeast Frontier Railway zone of Indian Railways that runs between Guwahati and Dullabcherra via old Karimganj Junction in the Indian state of Assam. It is currently being operated with 15617 DN / 15618 UP train numbers on a tri-weekly basis. It runs as an overnight train from Guwahati and as a Day-Night train from Dullabcherra.
