Karl Scott (born May 2, 1985) is an American football coach for the Seattle Seahawks. [1] He previously coached at the collegiate level at Alabama and Texas Tech. [2]

Coaching career

Early coaching career

Scott's coaching career began at Delta State as a graduate assistant in 2007. [3] He then went on to work four years at Tusculum College serving as the team’s recruiting coordinator, defensive backs coach and linebackers coach. He then went on to coach at Southeastern Louisiana for three years, coaching the linebackers for the first two years and then serving as the defensive coordinator in 2014. In 2015 Scott coached the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs safeties under head coach Skip Holtz. For the next two years he oversaw the entire Red Raider secondary. [4]

Alabama

Scott spent three years coaching at the University of Alabama under Nick Saban and defensive coordinator Pete Golding whom he had previously worked with at Southeastern and at Tusculum. [5] Originally he was coaching both positions in the defensive backfield, but for the final two years of his tenure at Alabama he was only coaching corners. In 2020 he was a part of the Alabama undefeated national championship team.

Minnesota Vikings

For the 2021 season, the Minnesota Vikings replaced defensive backs coach Daronte Jones with Scott. [6]

Seattle Seahawks

On February 8, 2022, Scott has been hired by the Seattle Seahawks as the main Secondary Coach and Passing Game Coordinator. He was retained by new head coach Mike Macdonald when former head coach Pete Carroll stepped down. [7]

Personal life

Scott and his wife Taron have 2 daughters, Kina Bailey and Kari Mae. [5]

He played as a linebacker in the National Football League (NFL) for 13 seasons, from 1981 to 1993, with the St. Louis / Phoenix Cardinals, the Miami Dolphins, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and the Seattle Seahawks. Junior played college football for the Alabama Crimson Tide, where he played as a defensive end and earned consensus selection to the 1980 College Football All-America Team. He was selected by the Cardinals in the first round with the fifth overall pick of the 1981 NFL Draft. Junior served as the head football coach at Central State University from 2009 to 2013. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame as a player in 2020.

McNeill also served as the head coach of the East Carolina Pirates from 2010 to 2015. Before being named head coach of the Pirates, McNeill served the Texas Tech Red Raiders as an interim head coach, assistant head coach, special teams coordinator, and linebackers coach. On December 28, 2009, he was named interim head coach of the Red Raiders following the suspension and later firing of head coach Mike Leach. James Edward Willis III is a former American football linebacker in the National Football League (NFL) and a former coach in the NCAA and in the NFL. He was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the fifth round of the 1993 NFL Draft. He played college football at Auburn. He played high school football at J.O. Johnson High School in Huntsville, Alabama. He was the defensive assistant/linebackers coach for the New Orleans Saints of the NFL until his termination on January 5, 2017.

Bradley later served as the head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars from 2013 to 2016.
