Magelang is one of six cities in Central Java Province of Indonesia that are administratively independent of the regencies in which they lie geographically. Each of these cities is governed by a mayor rather than a bupati. Magelang city covers an area of 18.54 km2 and has a population of 118,227 at the 2010 census and 121,526 at the 2020 census; the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 121,675. It is geographically located in the middle of the Magelang Regency, between Mount Merbabu and Mount Sumbing in the south of the province, and lies 43 km north of Yogyakarta, 15 km north of Mungkid and 75 km south of Semarang, the capital of Central Java.
Pekalongan is a city of Central Java, Indonesia. It was formerly the seat of Pekalongan Regency on the northern coast of the province, but is now an independent municipality within the province. It covers a land area of 45.25 km2 and had a population of 281,434 at the 2010 Census and 307,150 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 309,742. Mojokerto is a city in East Java Province, Indonesia. It is located 40 km southwest of Surabaya, and constitutes one of the component units of the Surabaya metropolitan area which comprises Gresik Regency, Bangkalan Regency, Mojokerto Regency, Mojokerto City, Surabaya City, Sidoarjo Regency, and Lamongan Regency. The city had a population of 120,196 at the 2010 census and 132,434 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 134,350.

Ponorogo Regency is an inland regency of East Java Province of Indonesia. It is considered the birthplace of Reog Ponorogo, a traditional Indonesian dance form. The regency covers an area of 1,371.78 km2 (529.65 sq mi), and it had a population of 855,281 at the 2010 census and 949,318 at the 2020 census; the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 964,253. The capital of the kabupaten is the local town of Ponorogo located around 30 km (19 mi) south of the main East Java city of Madiun and 65 km (40 mi) south of the town of Ngawi.

Kyai Haji Ahmad Dahlan, often abbreviated to K.H. Ahmad Dahlan, was an Indonesian Muslim religious leader and revivalist, who established the Muhammadiyah organization. Which would become one of the largest muslim organizations in Indonesia, second only to the Nahdlatul Ulama. Born in Kauman, Yogyakarta, he was the son of an imam of a local mosque, and traced his origins from the lineage of Muhammad. Ahmad Dahlan performed the Hajj pilgrimage when he was 15 years old, and he lived in Mecca for another five years.

The population of the Regency was 908,004 in 2000, but had risen to 1,025,443 at the 2010 Census and to 1,119,209 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 1,133,584. Many of them earn their living as small farmers and craftsmen.

The regency covers an area of 1,474.02 km2, and it had a population of 1,512,468 at the 2010 Census and 1,605,969 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 1,619,035. These figures excludes the population of the city of Pasuruan, which lies geographically within this regency but is administratively separate from it.
