The Lakshman Sruthi Orchestra is a Manual Orchestra based in Chennai. It was established in 1987 with 10 members. Since then, it has performed over 7,800 times in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi. The orchestra has performed across the world. The orchestra maintains completely manual orchestration; it does not use synthesizers or any other electronic equipment.
The Lakshman Sruthi Orchestra was the first orchestra to carry out a 36-hour non-stop light music performance on 17–18 December 1994 at Kamarajar Arangam in Chennai. In doing so, it set a world record. The performance was inaugurated by Padmashree Dr. K. J. Yesudas and watched by an audience of 24,000 people. This audience included M. S. Viswanathan, T. K. Ramamoorthy, Isaignani Ilaiyaraaja, Shankar–Ganesh, Gangai Amaran, Isai Puyal, A. R. Rahman, T. Rajendar, R. Pandiarajan and Ramarajan.
As well as performing its own shows, the Lakshman Sruthi Orchestra also put on a show with the well-known playback singers Dr. K. J. Yesudas and Dr. S. P. Balasubramanyam performing together in Paris, France. This same combination was promoted all over the world, with a total of 14 stage shows so far.
At another time, a show made up of film music from the Carnatic tradition was organized. This was presided over by N. S. K. Vaidhyanathan, Kadri Gopalnath, Nithyashree Mahadevan, Sowmya.
On 4 August 1996, a show was held for women only in Chennai at the Kamarajar Arangam.
The orchestra has frequently been involved in devotional music. For the last 14 years, they have performed completely devotional concerts, with free admission, especially for Iyyappa devotees.
In addition, the orchestra has performed large-scale gala shows in many countries around the world. These include Australia, France, Germany, Switzerland, USA, Canada and Denmark.

The Lakshman Sruthi Orchestra has also performed a mobile concert to raise funds and awareness for Gujarat earthquake relief.
Kattassery Joseph Yesudas is an Indian playback singer and musician who sings Indian classical, devotional and film songs. He is widely considered one of the greatest singers in the history of Indian music and a cultural icon of Kerala. Yesudas is estimated to have recorded more than 50,000 songs in various Indian languages, including Malayalam, Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, Tulu, Hindi, Odia, Bengali, Marathi as well as Arabic, English, Latin, and Russian, in a career spanning six decades. He is often referred to as Gaanagandharvan. Yesudas holds the record for singing 11 songs in different languages in a single day. He has also composed a number of Malayalam film songs during the 1970s and 1980s.
Pulapaka Suseela is an Indian playback singer associated with the South Indian cinema primarily from Andhra Pradesh for over six decades and is referred to as the "Evergreen Nightingale of Indian cinema". She is one of the greatest and best-known playback singers in India. She has been recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as well as by the Asia Book of Records for performing a record number of songs in different Indian languages. She is also the recipient of five National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer and numerous state awards. Susheela is widely acclaimed as a singer who defined feminism in South Indian cinema and is well known for her mellifluous vocal performances for over 50,000 film and devotional songs across South Indian languages.
Vani Jairam was an Indian playback singer in Indian cinema. She is fondly referred to as the "Meera of modern India" Vani's career started in 1971 and has spanned over five decades. She did playback for over one thousand Indian movies recording over 20,000 songs. In addition, she recorded thousands of devotionals and private albums and also participated in numerous solo concerts in India and abroad.
Sudha Ragunathan is an Indian Carnatic vocalist, singer and composer. She was conferred the Kalaimamani award by the Government of Tamil Nadu in 1994, Padma Shri (2004) and Padma Bhushan (2015) by the Government of India, and Sangeetha Kalanidhi by Madras Music Academy in 2013.
Parakkal Unnikrishnan is an Indian Carnatic vocalist and playback singer.
Nithyasree Mahadevan, also referred to as S. Nithyasree, is a Carnatic musician and playback singer for film songs in many Indian languages. Nithyashree has performed in all major sabhas in India. She has released more than 500 albums. She is best known for her rendition of the A. R. Rahman composition, "Kannodu Kaanbadhellam" - her playback debut song in the Tamil movie Jeans.
Sripathi Panditharadhyula Charan, credited as S. P. Charan, is an Indian playback singer and actor works predominantly works in Tamil cinema and Telugu cinema.
Ranjith K. Govind, also known as K.G. Ranjith, is an Indian playback singer, working in the Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada film industries and has sung more than 2500 songs.
Porayath Leela was an Indian playback singer, Carnatic vocalist, and a music director. Manikka Vinayagam was an Indian playback singer and actor. He sang for South Indian language films and acted in several Tamil films as a character artist. He was the son of the dancer Vazhuvoor B. Ramiah Pillai. His uncle and music guru was the singer C. S. Jayaraman.
Tharangini Records is the music company founded by noted Indian Playback singer K. J. Yesudas in 1980 at Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. It was the first recording and distributing music label in Kerala from where Malayalam film songs on audio cassettes came out. Srimathumitha is an Indian playback and Carnatic singer who sings mainly in Tamil. She has also sung in Telugu, Hindi and Kannada songs. Some of her notable songs are "Azhage Azhage" from the movie Oru Kal Oru Kannadi, "Valayapatti Thavile" from the movie Azhagiya Tamil Magan, "Kanaa Kaanum Kalangal" from the movie 7G Rainbow Colony, and "Rathathin Rathame" from the movie Velayudham. She is one of the leading playback singers in today’s film music scenario. She has sung for leading music directors like Ilayaraja, Harris Jayaraj, Yuvan Shankar Raja, A. R. Rahman, Bharadwaj, Deva, S. A. Rajkumar, and Bharani. She emerged as the "Best Voice of 2002" in the TV Reality Show Rajageetham conducted by RAJ TV. She is the first playback singer to win the Vikadan Awards started in 2004, which was juried by late Sujatha. A. R. Rahman has featured her in two songs in the soundtrack of Oscar-winning film Slumdog Millionaire.
Dr. Gayatri Sankaran is an Indian Carnatic musician and vocalist specialising in Carnatic vocals and violin performances. She is a recipient of the Kalaimamani award from Tamil Nadu Eyal Isai Nataka Manram, a unit of the Directorate of Art and Culture, Government of Tamil Nadu. The Government of India honoured her in 2006 with the award of Padma Shri, the fourth highest Indian civilian award for her contributions to music, making her the first visually impaired woman to receive the award.
Ombathuveli Subrahmanyam Thyagarajan was an Indian carnatic musician based in Chennai.
Chennaiyil Thiruvaiyaru is a music festival, which has been conducted consecutively since 2005. It is an eight-day Carnatic music festival lasting from 18 to 25 December every year at Kamarajar Arangam, Teynampet, Chennai. Performances by Carnatic and Hindustani musicians, dancers, and discourses have been scheduled in this weeklong event with shows daily.

Pushpavanam Kuppusamy is a Tamil folk singer, playback singer, lyricist, writer and music composer. He has been credited for reviving the Naatupura Paatu, a type of Tamil folk art. Together with his wife Anitha Kuppusamy, he has conducted several concerts of Tamil folk songs, and the couple have together brought out several albums of authentic Tamil folk music. He has also written books on Tamil Folk songs. He appears on Television Channels like Sun TV, Vijay TV, and Makkal TV performing musical shows. He is a recipient of the Kalaimamani award from the Government of Tamil Nadu.
Ganga Sittrarasu is an Indian playback singer who has worked in the Indian film industry. Ganga worked extensively with A. R. Rahman during the late 1990s and early 2000s, while also regularly collaborating with M. M. Keeravani.
