Lata Tapovan Hydro Electric Power Project is Run of the River based project located Approx 25 Km from Joshimath in dist. Chamoli in Uttarakhand. The Joshimath town is 230 km from Rishikesh. [1] Capacity of project is 171 MW Underground (3 x 57 MW) [2] The project has been suspended by the order of Supreme Court of India since 2014 and the matter is still pending in the court.

Tapovan (Sanskrit) comes from the two root words tapas, meaning 'penance' and by extension 'religious mortification' and 'austerity', and more generally 'spiritual practice', and vana, meaning 'forest' or 'thicket'. Tapovan then translates as 'forest of austerities or spiritual practice'.

The 2021 Uttarakhand flood, also known as the Chamoli disaster, began on 7 February 2021 in the environs of the Nanda Devi National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the outer Garhwal Himalayas in Uttarakhand state, India. It was caused by a large rock and ice avalanche consisting of material dislodged from Ronti peak. It caused flooding in the Chamoli district, most notably in the Rishiganga river, the Dhauliganga river, and in turn the Alaknanda—the major headstream of the Ganges. The disaster left over 200 killed or missing. Most were workers at the Tapovan dam site.

Moozhiyar Dam A dam in Kerala, India

Moozhiyar Dam is a small dam located close to Kaki Reservoir in Ranni Forest, Sitathod Grama Panchayat, Pathanamthitta District, Kerala. Kakkad Hydro electric Project is the second stage development of Pamba river basin. The installed capacity is 50 MW. This scheme utilises the tail race water from Sabarigiri power station and flow received from moozhiyar and velluthode rivers. Two dams feed water to the powerhouse. The Moozhiyar Dam creates the main reservoir of this project.Taluks through which release flow are Ranni, Konni, Kozhencherry, Thiruvalla, Chengannur, Kuttanadu, Mavelikara and Karthikappally.
