NSPCL [2] [3] (NTPC-SAIL Power Company Limited) is a joint venture of National Thermal Power Corporation [4] and Steel Authority of India Limited. [5] engaged in power generation primarily to meet the captive power requirement of various steel plants of SAIL throughout India. [6] It is one of the institutional category III profit making Indian PSEs. [7]
NTPC and SAIL joined forces in March 2001 and took over a captive power plant (consisting of 2x60MW generators) located at the Durgapur Steel Plant and another (also 2x60 MW) at the Rourkela Steel Plant.
NTPC formed another joint venture company with SAIL on in March 2002 in the name of Bhilai Electric Supply Company Ltd. (BESCL). BESCL took over a captive power plant (comprising 2x 30 MW generators and one 14MW back-power turbo generator) located at the Bhilai Steel Plant from SAIL. Effective 11 September 2006, BESCL became part of NSPCL.
Since 2006, NSPCL has provided all power required by the Bhilai, Durgapur and Rourkela steel plants. To meet growing demands, NSPCL commissioned an expansion project at Bhilai comprising two 250 MW generators during 2008–2009, and brought the units online in 2009–2010. From the expansion plant, NSPCL is supplying power to the beneficiaries viz. Union Territory of Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Union Territory of Daman & Diu, Chhattishgarh and Bhilai Steel Plant / SAIL in the western region. Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) is a government owned steel producer based in New Delhi, India. It is under the ownership of Ministry of Steel, Government of India with an annual turnover of INR 68,452 Crore for fiscal year 2020–21. Incorporated on 24 January 1973, SAIL has 61,989 employees. With an annual production of 16.30 million metric tons, SAIL is the 20th largest steel producer in the world and the largest in India. The Hot Metal production capacity of the company will further increase and is expected to reach a level of 50 million tonnes per annum by 2025.
India is the third largest producer of electricity in the world. The national electric grid in India has an installed capacity of 399.467 GW as of 31 March 2022. Renewable power plants, which also include large hydroelectric plants, constitute 39.2 % of total installed capacity. During the fiscal year (FY) 2019–20, the gross electricity generated by utilities in India was 1,383.5 TWh and the total electricity generation in the country was 1,598 TWh. The gross electricity consumption in FY2019 was 1,208 kWh per capita. In FY2015, electric energy consumption in agriculture was recorded as being the highest (17.89%) worldwide. The per capita electricity consumption is low compared to most other countries despite India having a low electricity tariff.
NLC India Limited (NLC) is a government-owned-fossil fuel miner and thermal power generator under the ownership of Ministry of Coal, Government of India. It annually produces about 30 million tonnes of Lignite from opencast mines at Neyveli in the state of Tamil Nadu in southern India and at Barsingsar in Bikaner district of Rajasthan state. The lignite is used at pithead thermal power stations of 3640 MW installed capacity to produce electricity. Its joint venture has a 1000 MW thermal power station using coal. Lately, it has diversified into renewable energy production and installed 1404 MW solar power plant to produce electricity from photovoltaic (PV) cells and 51 MW electricity from windmills.

The Koldam Hydropower Station commonly known as Koldam, is an embankment dam on the Satluj River upstream of the Dehar Power House. It is 18 km from Bilaspur off the Chandigarh-Manali Highway (NH-21) near Barmana, Himachal Pradesh, India. The main purpose of the dam is hydroelectric power generation and it will support an 800 MW power station. The dam was constructed by NTPC Limited.
Kanti Thermal Power Station also known as George Fernandes Thermal Power Plant Station is located in Kanti, Muzaffarpur, 90 km from Patna, the capital of the Indian state of Bihar. George Fernandes formar CM of Bihar. It is wholly owned subsidiary company of NTPC. The share of the company is 100% of the NTPC. The plant was not functional between 2003 and 2013; however, renovation of both older units paved the way for commercial production of electricity by the end of 2013.
Bihar State Power Holding Company Limited (BSPHCL), formerly Bihar State Electricity Board (BSEB) is a state-owned electricity regulation board operating within the state of Bihar in India. BSEB was established in 1958 as a statutory corporation under the Electricity (Supply) Act, 1948. As of November 2012, BSEB has nearly 1,700 officers and 14,850 employees. The derated capacity comes to just 530 MW. The BSEB was unbundled on 2 August 2011. Power Finance Corporation was the main consultant for BSEB's restructuring.

The Nabinagar Thermal Power Station Project (NTPS) of Bhartiya Rail Bijlee Company Limited is a joint venture of NTPC Limited and Indian Railways to install a 4X 250 MW thermal power plant at Nabinagar in Aurangabad district, Bihar, India. The equity portions of NTPC and Indian Railways will be 74 per cent and 26 per cent respectively. Nearly 90 per cent of the electricity generated from the plant is supplied to the railways to meet nationwide requirements and remaining 10 per cent is given to Bihar.
