Law is a village situated between Carluke and Wishaw in South Lanarkshire, Scotland with a population of around 3,000. [2] The village lies on the border of North Lanarkshire.

Law is a former mining village, now mainly a low density residential area.

Amenities

For a village so small, Law has a wide range of services, the majority of which can be found on Station Road, the village's main street.

Law Parish Church can be found on Station Road. The church is part of the Church of Scotland and seeks to provide spiritual and pastoral care to anyone in the parish, church member or not, who requires it. A variety of organisations take place in the church for people of all ages including the Boys' Brigade and Girls' Brigade. [3]

Law Primary School has approximately 240 pupils [4] and with older pupils going on to attend Carluke High School four miles (six kilometres) away.

The West Coast Main Line runs through the north-eastern edge of the village. Law Junction railway station was closed in 1965. [5] However, there has been much speculation that it may be reopened in future, due to the proposed building of many new homes on the old site of Law Hospital. [6] If re-opened, cities such as Glasgow and Edinburgh could be accessible from Law by train.

Law Hospital, on the outskirts of Law Village, closed in 2001, with all patients being sent to Wishaw General Hospital, located in the Craigneuk area of Wishaw. There was an ambulance station on the site of the hospital but since 2001, the Scottish Ambulance Service opened a new one next door to Huws Gray builder's merchant on Wildman Road, which is the entrance road to the village from Wishaw.

Law Community AFC

Law Community AFC, formed in 2011, is the village's local amateur football team. Their home games are played at Law Football Parks. The team are currently in the Premier Division. Their Home Kit is Red and away kit is Blue. Their sponsors are local businesses Tandoori Palace, Scotmid, TCH Law and Caledonian Bar.

The Clyde Walkway is a foot and mountain bike path which runs from Glasgow, Scotland, to just above the UNESCO World Heritage Site of New Lanark. The path runs close to the River Clyde for most of its length. It was completed in 2005, and is now designated as one of Scotland's Great Trails by NatureScot. The route is 65 kilometres (40 mi) long, and combines rural sections on the upper Clyde in South Lanarkshire, including the Clyde Valley Woodlands National Nature Reserve and the Falls of Clyde, with urban walking through the centre of Glasgow. About 155,000 people use the path every year, of whom about 7,750 undertake multi-day journeys including those covering the entire route.

Craigneuk is a suburb of Wishaw, North Lanarkshire, Scotland. The original village of Craigneuk was located in the area where Meadowhead Road meets the A721 at Craigneuk Street. It was originally part of Dalziel parish, along with the other rural weaving villages of Flemington, Motherwell and Windmillhill. Craigneuk village was located close to the boundary with Cambusnethan parish.

The Wishaw and Coltness Railway was an early Scottish mineral railway. It ran for approximately 11 miles from Chapel Colliery, at Newmains in North Lanarkshire connecting to the Monkland and Kirkintilloch Railway near Whifflet, giving a means of transport for minerals around Newmains to market in Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Chapelhall is a village outside the town of Airdrie in North Lanarkshire, Scotland. With house building, the distinction between Airdrie and Chapelhall is being eroded. Established as a small mining village in the 19th century, it now has population of around 6,560. Chapelhall is situated just off the M8 motorway 13 miles (21 km) east of Glasgow city centre and around 33 miles (53 km) west of Edinburgh. Chapelhall is also near to many of Lanarkshire's main towns, such as Bellshill, Coatbridge, Motherwell, Hamilton and Cumbernauld, as well as being around 3 miles (4.8 km) away from Airdrie town centre. The Eurocentral freight village/industrial estate is just a mile or so away and employs people from around Lanarkshire, Glasgow and West Lothian. The rail-freight village links with Grangemouth docks 28 miles (45 km) away,.

Netherton is a southerly suburb of Wishaw, which can be entered from Netherton Road, which runs easterly from Pickering's Corner to the Cherry Tree public house, spanning the full length of the suburb. Alternatively, Netherton can also be entered from Netherton Street, which runs from the Heathery roundabout to Netherton Cross. Netherton is bordered by Gowkthrapple, Craigneuk, Muirhouse and the River Clyde.
