Liolaemus platei, known by the common name braided tree iguana, is a species of lizard in the family Liolaemidae. The species is endemic to Chile.
This taxon, L. platei, is endemic to the Chilean Matorral ecoregion, [2] ranging from Antofagasta Region in the north through the Atacama Region to the Coquimbo Region in the south. [1]
L. platei was described as a species new to science in the year 1898 by Austrian herpetologist Franz Werner. [3] [4] Liolaemus curicensis was formerly considered a subspecies of L. platei. [4]
The specific name, platei, is in honor of German zoologist Ludwig Hermann Plate. [5]
L. platei is classified by the IUCN as Least Concern. [1]
Rhinella atacamensis, sometimes called the Vallenar toad or Atacama toad, is a species of toad in the family Bufonidae. It is endemic to Chile and occurs between Paposo and Las Chilcas. It inhabits the desert Pacific coastal region with Mediterranean influences and is found in and near oases and streams. Breeding takes place in permanent pools, streams, and rivers.
