In January 2003, a Cambodian newspaper article falsely alleged that a Thai actress Suvanant Kongying claimed that Angkor Wat belonged to Thailand. Other Cambodian print and radio media picked up the report and furthered the nationalistic sentiment which resulted in riots in Phnom Penh on 29 January where the Thai Embassy was burned and commercial properties of Thai businesses were vandalized. The riots reflect the fluid historical relationship between Thailand and Cambodia, as well as the economic, cultural and political factors involving the two countries.

Hor Namhong Cambodian politician

Hor Namhong is a Cambodian diplomat who served in the government of Cambodia as Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1990 to 1993 and again from 1998 to 2016. He is a member of the Cambodian People's Party and has been a Deputy Prime Minister since 2004. He served as Cambodia's foreign minister for a combined tenure of 20 years.

Norodom Sihamoni King of Cambodia since 2004

Norodom Sihamoni is the King of Cambodia. He became King on 14 October 2004, a week after the abdication of his father, Norodom Sihanouk. He is the eldest son of King Sihanouk and Queen Norodom Monineath and was Cambodia's ambassador to UNESCO, prior to his selection by a nine-member throne council to become the next king. Before ascending to the throne, Sihamoni was educated in Czechoslovakia and was best known for his work as a cultural ambassador in Europe and as a classical dance instructor.

The monarchy of Cambodia is the head of state of the Kingdom of Cambodia. In the contemporary period the King's power has been limited to that of a symbolic figurehead. The monarchy had been in existence since at least 68 AD except during its abolition from 1970 to 1993. Since 1993, the King of Cambodia is an elected monarch, making Cambodia one of the few elective monarchies of the world. The king is elected for life from among male descendants of King Ang Duong who are at least 30 years old by the Royal Council of the Throne, which consists of several senior political and religious figures.

Cambodia–United States relations Bilateral relations

Bilateral relations between the United States and Cambodia, while strained throughout the Cold War, have strengthened considerably in modern times. The U.S. supports efforts in Cambodia to combat terrorism, build democratic institutions, promote human rights, foster economic development, eliminate corruption, achieve the fullest possible accounting for Americans missing from the Indochina Wars-era, and to bring to justice those most responsible for serious violations of international humanitarian law committed under the Khmer Rouge regime.

Cambodia–Russia relations Bilateral relations

Cambodia–Russia relations refers to the bilateral relations of Cambodia and Russia. The relations between both countries were strong since the Soviet era. Russia has an embassy in Phnom Penh. Cambodia has an embassy in Moscow. Both countries are full members of the East Asia Summit.

The Embassy of Cambodia in Washington, D.C. is the diplomatic mission of the Kingdom of Cambodia to the United States of America. It is located at 4530 16th Street Northwest, Washington, D.C. in the Crestwood neighborhood.

Cambodia–Philippines relations Bilateral relations

The Cambodia–Philippines relations refers to the diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Cambodia. Relations were formally established in August 1957. The Philippines and Cambodia have maintained cordial ties since the resumption of diplomatic relations in 1995. Cambodia maintains an embassy in Manila and the Philippines also maintains an embassy in Phnom Penh.

Cambodian–Dutch War

The Cambodian–Dutch War from 1643–1644 was a conflict sparked by a coup which brought a new Cambodian King to the throne who converted to Islam with the help of Malay traders resident in the country. The new King initiated a massacre of Dutch East India Company employees and subsequently defeated the Dutch forces sent to extract retribution from the Cambodians.

Cambodia–Spain relations Bilateral relations

Cambodia and Spain share bilateral and diplomatic relations. Cambodia does not have embassy in Spain, but the embassy in Paris is accredited for this country. There is no diplomatic delegation from Spain in Cambodia. The Spanish Embassy is located in Bangkok, Thailand.

Cambodia–Turkey relations Bilateral relations

Cambodia–Turkey relations are the foreign relations between Cambodia and Turkey. Diplomatic relations at the legation level were established in 1947 and then to the rank of ambassador in 1959. It was not until 2013, however, that Turkey established a resident embassy in Cambodia's capital, Phnom Penh.
