American actor Kieran Culkin achieved a career breakthrough after starring in the film Igby Goes Down (2002), for which he was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor and won the Critics' Choice Movie Award for Best Young Performer. He gained recognition for his performance in the HBO series Succession (2018–2023), winning the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, the corresponding Golden Globe Award, two Critics' Choice Television Awards for both Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, and two ensemble prizes at the Screen Actors Guild Awards.

A Real Pain is a 2024 buddy road comedy-drama film written and directed by Jesse Eisenberg. An international co-production between Poland and the United States, it stars Eisenberg and Kieran Culkin as mismatched Jewish American cousins who travel to Poland to honor their late grandmother. The cast also includes Will Sharpe, Jennifer Grey, Kurt Egyiawan, Liza Sadovy, and Daniel Oreskes.

The 50th Los Angeles Film Critics Association Awards, given by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association (LAFCA), honoured the best in film for 2024. The awards were announced on December 8, 2023. Anora received the most awards with three wins, including Best Film, Best Lead Performance and Best Supporting Performance.

The 59th National Society of Film Critics Awards, given on January 4, 2025, honored the best in film for 2024.
