Shropshire is a landlocked historic county in the West Midlands region of England. It is bordered by Wales to the west and the English counties of Cheshire to the north, Staffordshire to the east, Worcestershire to the southeast, and Herefordshire to the south. A unitary authority of the same name was created in 2009, taking over from the previous county council and five district councils, now governed by Shropshire Council. The borough of Telford and Wrekin has been a separate unitary authority since 1998, but remains part of the ceremonial county.

It has both professional and semi-professional status clubs and is at the top of the Welsh football league system. Prior to 2002, the league was known as the League of Wales (LoW), but changed its name as part of a sponsorship deal to the Welsh Premier League. The league was rebranded as the Cymru Premier for the 2019–20 season.
Cefn Druids Association Football Club is an association football team based in the village of Cefn Mawr, Wrexham, Wales, who play in the Cymru North after being relegated from the Cymru Premier in 2021–22.
The New Saints of Oswestry Town & Llansantffraid Football Club, also known as The New Saints or TNS, are a professional football club that currently play in the Cymru Premier. They are the most successful club in the Welsh league structure, with 14 league titles to their name. Since the 2001–02 season they have finished as champions or runners-up in every season apart from 2008 to 2009, where they finished third in the league.

The Shropshire County Premier Football League was an English association football league based in the county of Shropshire. The league, usually known as the Shropshire County League, was founded in 1950 and in the final season had two divisions which sat at levels 13 and 14 of the English football league system. It was dissolved in May 2012 and all member clubs transferred to a new, larger Mercian Regional Football League for the 2012–13 season.
Park Hall Stadium is a football stadium in Oswestry, Shropshire, England. It was opened by Shropshire County Council in 1993, originally as the home of Oswestry Town. In 2003, Oswestry Town merged with Total Network Solutions F.C. (TNS) to form current Cymru Premier team The New Saints. The newly merged club moved away from Park Hall to Total Network Solutions' Recreation Ground.

Wem Town Ladies Football Club is a women's semi-professional association football club from Wem, and affiliated to the men's team of the same name. They play in the. The club are a part of The New Saints F.C. foundation and share close links with the other sections of the club. Until 2020, they were known as The New Saints of Oswestry Town & Llansantffraid Ladies Football Club due to their partnership with the Cymru Premier side.
The 2020–21 North West Counties Football League season was the 39th in the history of the North West Counties Football League, a football competition in England, and the third season following the split of the lower level into two geographically separated divisions. Teams are divided into three divisions: Premier Division, at Step 5, and Divisions One North and South, at Step 6.
