Teams

The 18 UCI WorldTeams are automatically invited to the race. Additionally, the organisers of the Tour, the Amaury Sport Organisation (ASO), invited four second-tier UCI Professional Continental teams to participate in the event. The three French teams and one Belgian team have each participated in the race before. [2] [3]

Vacansoleil–DCM Pro Cycling Team was a Dutch professional road race cycling team. They were a UCI ProTeam and competed in the UCI World Tour. Vérandas Willems–Crelan was a UCI Professional Continental team founded in 2013 and based in Belgium. During the winter the team is active in cyclo-cross. Former team member Michael Goolaerts died following a cardiac arrest at the 2018 Paris–Roubaix in France. In August 2018 it was announced that the team would merge with Roompot–Nederlandse Loterij for the 2019 season under the name Roompot-Crelan.

The 3,365.8 km (2,091 mi)-long race consisted of 21 stages, starting in the Belgian capital of Brussels on 6 July, before moving throughout France and concluding on the Champs-Élysées in Paris on 28 July. A total of 176 riders from 22 teams participated in the race. The overall general classification was won for the first time by a Latin American rider, Egan Bernal of Team Ineos.
