Around 46 privately owned television channels were permitted by the Government of Bangladesh as of 2023, [1] of which thirty-six are currently on air. Six television channels, namely STV-US, CSB News, Channel 1, Diganta Television, Islamic TV, and Channel 16, have been taken off air. Bangladesh has four state-owned television stations, of which only three broadcast on terrestrial television, which are BTV Dhaka, BTV Chittagong, and Sangsad Television. In total, there are 50 television channels in Bangladesh, with 40 currently on air.
As of today, Bangladesh has four state-owned television channels. Among them, Bangladesh Television is the oldest, founded in 1964.

Bangladesh Television, commonly known by its acronym BTV, is the state-owned television network of Bangladesh. The network was originally established as the East Pakistan branch of Pakistan Television in 1964. It was rebranded right after the independence of Bangladesh. BTV is the oldest Bengali-language television network in the world, as well as the oldest television network in Bangladesh, and is sister to the radio broadcaster Bangladesh Betar, which, along with BTV, are both owned and operated by the government.
Bangla TV is a Bengali-language satellite television channel based in the United Kingdom and Bangladesh. It was established in the United Kingdom on 16 September 1999, targeting Bengali audiences both there and in Europe. It commenced transmissions in Bangladesh on 19 May 2017.

It was launched on 25 January 2011, and broadcasts live from the National Parliament of Bangladesh.
GTV, also known as Gazi Television, is a Bangladeshi Bengali-language satellite and cable television channel owned by Gazi Group Commencing broadcasts on 12 June 2012, it is based in Segun Bagicha in Dhaka. The channel is owned by Gazi Group, which is owned by Golam Dastagir Gazi, EX Frude former minister and member of the Bangladesh Awami League party.
BTV World is a Bangladeshi Bengali-language satellite and cable television channel owned by the state-owned Bangladesh Television. It began operations on 11 April 2004 via the AsiaSat 3 satellite. It simulcasts the broadcasts of BTV Dhaka for most of its schedule, which then simulcasts BTV World's broadcasts during the off-air hours of its terrestrial feed.
Ekattor TV is a Bangladeshi Bengali-language satellite and cable news television channel owned by the Meghna Group of Industries, commencing transmissions on 21 June 2012, as Bangladesh's first news-oriented television channel broadcasting in full HD. Ekattor is among the most popular news-oriented television channels in the country. The channel broadcasts from its headquarters in the Sohrawardi Avenue of Baridhara.
Duronto TV is a Bangladeshi Bengali-language satellite and cable children's television channel, and the first of its kind in the country. It was initially licensed in 2013 as "Renaissance TV", but was later renamed to its current name. The channel began test broadcasts on 5 October 2017, and later commenced official broadcasts ten days later on 15 October 2017.

Nagorik is a Bangladeshi Bengali-language privately owned satellite and cable television channel owned by Jadoo Media Limited, and is based in Khilkhet, Dhaka. It began operations on 1 March 2018, with the slogan, "Television Noy, Somporko". Nagorik claims that they do not compete with local Bangladeshi television channels, and instead compete with foreign television channels by working with the local ones.

Established in June 1977, it relays programming from the main television station of BTV in Dhaka. It is yet to be converted into a regional television station, although an initiative to do so was taken in 1991. BTV Sylhet is headquartered in the Kazitula neighborhood of the city.
