The Ancient and Auspicious Order of the Nine Gems was established in 1851 by King Mongkut of the Kingdom of Siam. The order is bestowed upon the members of the Thai royal family and distinguished high-ranking officials who have given service to the kingdom and who are active Buddhist laypeople. In practice, it is the highest Thai order granted to Thai citizens, as the two higher orders are reserved for royalty or foreign heads of state. Chavarat Charnvirakul is a Thai politician. He had served as an Acting Prime Minister of Thailand as a result of the 2008 Thai political crisis. His family is of Thai Chinese descent with ancestry from Guangdong.

Prince Bhisadej Rajani was a prince of Thailand, a member of the Thai royal family, and a member of the House of Rajani, a royal house which was originated by his father and descends from Chakri Dynasty. He was one of the longest-living royal personages in the Thai history. He was a close friend of the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej, who was also his third-degree cousin. In addition, he was also an author and worked as one of the directors of the Royal Project Foundation for the late king.

Rosana Tositrakul is a Thai politician and former Senator for Bangkok. She was first elected in 2006, only to find the polls scrapped by a military coup. She was voted into office a second time in 2008 with over 740,000 votes. In 2019, she announced her intention to contest in the 2022 Bangkok gubernatorial election as an independent candidate.
