The Star of the Republic of Indonesia (Indonesian : Bintang Republik Indonesia) is Indonesia's highest order awarded to both civilians and the military for their merits to the republic and the people. [1] It was officially instituted in 1959.

Contents

It is awarded to a person who has given extraordinary service to the integrity, viability, and greatness of Indonesia. As the highest order of the Republic, its grand master is the President of Indonesia, who after their inauguration is bestowed upon with the collar and medal of the "Bintang Republik Indonesia Adipurna" class. The Vice President of Indonesia, after their inauguration, is also bestowed upon with the collar and medal of the "Bintang Republik Indonesia Adipradana" class. [1] [2]

Recipients of the Star of the Republic of Indonesia wear the star on a sash and a breast star on the left chest. [3]

Prior to 1972, only Bintang Republik Indonesia Adipurna recipients wore the star on a sash. Recipients of the Bintang Republik Indonesia Adipradana wore the star on a ribbon which was worn around the neck. Both of Adipurna and Adipradana classes wore a breast star on the left chest. Recipients of the Bintang Republik Indonesia Utama, Pratama and Nararya wore the star on a ribbon on the left chest; with rosette for the Pratama class. [4]

Umar Wirahadikusumah was an Indonesian politician and former army general, who served as the fourth vice president of Indonesia, serving from 1983 until 1988. Previously, he was chair of the Audit Board of Indonesia from 1973 until 1983, and Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Army from 1969 until 1973. Born to a noble Sundanese family, he was educated at the Europeesche Lagere School Tasikmalaya and Meer Uitgebreid Lager Onderwijs Pasundan. He entered the military in 1943, during the Japanese occupation. He would go on to serve in the Indonesian Army during and after the Indonesian National Revolution, seeing combat in the Madiun Affair and the PRRI rebellion.

An Indonesian passport is a travel document issued by the Government of Indonesia to Indonesian citizens residing in Indonesia or overseas. Boediono is an Indonesian politician and economist. He was the 11th vice president of Indonesia, in office from 2009 to 2014. He became vice president after winning the 2009 presidential election together with the then-incumbent President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono. Prior to this he had been the Governor of the Indonesian Central Bank and a professor of economics at Gadjah Mada University.

Indonesia does not recognise same-sex marriage or civil unions. Marriage laws forbid same-sex marriages and prevent the registration of marriages validly performed abroad. Opinion polls show low levels of support for same-sex marriage among Indonesians.

In Indonesian law, the term "city" is generally defined as the second-level administrative subdivision of the Republic of Indonesia, an equivalent to regency. The difference between a city and a regency is that a city has non-agricultural economic activities and a dense urban population, while a regency comprises predominantly rural areas and is larger in area than a city. However, Indonesia historically had several classifications of cities.

Prof. Mr. Mohammad Nasroen was a Minangkabau bureaucrat, Indonesian philosophy scholar, professor of philosophy at the University of Indonesia, and a politician. He served as the first governor of Central Sumatra from 15 April 1948 to 1 August 1950, and he was the Minister of Justice in the Sukiman Cabinet from 20 November 1951 to 3 April 1952 replacing M. A. Pellaupessy.
