Maseno University is a public university based in the Maseno district of the Kisumu County, Kenya, along the Equator. It was fully fledged as a university in 2001, after being a constituent college of Moi University for a decade. It has over 10,000 students pursuing programmes offered in the university campuses and it is currently ranked among the best universities in Kenya.

Joseph Sinde Warioba served as Prime Minister of Tanzania from 1985 to 1990. Furthermore, he served concurrently as the country's Vice President. He has also served as a judge on the East African Court of Justice, and as chairman of the Tanzanian Constitutional Review Commission.
Makerere University is Uganda's largest and oldest institution of higher learning, first established as a technical school in 1922, and the oldest currently active university in East Africa. It became an independent national university in 1970. Today, Makerere University is composed of nine colleges and one school offering programmes for about 36,000 undergraduates and 4,000 postgraduates. These colleges include College of Natural Sciences (CONAS), College of Health Sciences (CHS), College of Engineering Art & Design (CEDAT), College of Agriculture and Environmental Studies (CAES), College Of Business and Management Sciences (CoBAMS), College of Humanities & Social Sciences (CHUSS), College of Computing and Information Sciences (COCIS), College of Veterinary Medicine, Animal Resources & Bio-security (COVAB), College of Education and External Studies (CEES) and Makerere University Business School (MUBS). In addition, Makerere has onother campus in Eastern Uganda Jinja City.
The University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) is a public university located in Ubungo District, Dar es Salaam Region, Tanzania. It was established in 1961 as an affiliate college of the University of London. The university became an affiliate of the University of East Africa (UEA) in 1963, shortly after Tanzania gained its independence from the United Kingdom. In 1970, UEA split into three independent universities: Makerere University in Uganda, the University of Nairobi in Kenya, and the University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania.
Kenyatta University (KU) is a public research university with its main campus in Nairobi, Kenya. It acquired the status of university in 1985, being the third university after University of Nairobi (1970) and Moi University (1984). As of October 2014, it was one of 23 public universities in the country.
John Samuel Malecela was Prime Minister of Tanzania from November 1990 to December 1994. He served as the vice-chairman of the CCM from 1995 to 2007, and a member of the CCM Central Committee to date.
Bangalore University (BU) is a public state university located in Bangalore, Karnataka, India. The university is a part of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) and affiliated by University Grants Commission (UGC). Bangalore University is accredited by the NAAC with grade A++ in 2023 under the new grading system. Bangalore University was trifurcated into Bengaluru City University and Bengaluru North University.
Zanzibar University is a private university in Zanzibar, Tanzania. It opened in 1998 as the first university in Zanzibar. It is a private university sponsored by the Darul Iman Charitable Association, an Islamic religious organization in Ontario, Canada. The university is situated in Tunguu area, in the Central District, some 12 miles (19 km) from Zanzibar Town. The university campus, with a total area of 170 acres (0.69 km2), is located among quiet countryside surroundings overlooking the Indian Ocean. There is public transport to the university.
King’s College Budo is a mixed, residential, secondary school in Central Uganda (Buganda).
The Open University of Tanzania (OUT) (Swahili: Chuo Kikuu Huria cha Tanzania) is a distance learning public university in Tanzania and the largest by the number of students. It was established by an Act of Parliament No. 17 of 1992. It is a single mode institution offering certificate, diploma and degree courses through distance learning. Its headquarters is situated in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and conducts its operations through 30 Regional Centres and 70 Study Centres. The university has a capacity of approximately 70,000 students both local and international ones.
St John's University of Tanzania (SJUT) is a private university in Dodoma, Tanzania. It was established in 2007 and is owned by the Anglican Church of Tanzania. The university has more than 4500 students and offers degrees in business administration, education, nursing, pharmacy, community development, development studies, holistic child development and theology. The Rt Rev Donald Mtetemela, the former archbishop and primate of Tanzania, is the university's current chancellor.
Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) ( Chuo Kikuu cha Afya na Sayansi Shirikishi Muhimbili, in Swahili) is a public university located in Upanga West, Ilala District of Dar es Salaam Region in Tanzania. It is accredited by the Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU).
Kampala International University (KIU) is a private, not-for-profit institution based in Uganda. It was established in 2001 and assumed chartered status in 2009.
The International Medical and Technological University (IMTU) is a private university located in Kawe ward of Kinondoni District in Dar es Salaam Region, Tanzania.
The Moshi Co-operative University (MoCU) is a public university in Moshi, Tanzania.
Kampala International University in Tanzania (KIUT) is a private university located in Gongolamboto ward of Ilala District in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
Peter Hitjitevi Katjavivi is a Namibian politician who is the Speaker of the National Assembly of Namibia since March 2015 and the chancellor of the Namibia University of Science and Technology from 1992 to 2003. Previously he was the founding Vice-Chancellor of the University of Namibia from 1992 to 2003, Ambassador to the European Union from 2003 to 2006, Ambassador to Germany from 2006 to 2008, and Director General of the National Planning Commission from 2008 to 2010.
Elifas Tozo Bisanda is a Tanzanian academic Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Vice-Chancellor of Open University of Tanzania since 2015. He is also currently the Chairperson of the UNESCO National Commission of the United Republic of Tanzania.
Murshidabad University is a public state university in Berhampore, Murshidabad, West Bengal. The university was established in 2021 by the West Bengal government under The Murshidabad University Act, 2018.
