North East Lincolnshire is a unitary authority area with borough status in Lincolnshire, England. It borders the borough of North Lincolnshire and districts of West Lindsey and East Lindsey. The population of the district in the 2011 Census was 159,616. The administrative centre and largest settlement is Grimsby and the borough includes the towns of Cleethorpes and Immingham as well as the villages of New Waltham, Waltham, Humberston, Healing and Great Coates. The borough is also home to the Port of Grimsby and Port of Immingham as well as Cleethorpes beach.

Grimsby adjoins the town of Cleethorpes directly to the south-east forming a conurbation. Grimsby is 45 mi (72 km) north-east of Lincoln, 33 mi (53 km) south-south-east of Hull, 28 mi (45 km) south-east of Scunthorpe, 50 mi (80 km) east of Doncaster and 80 mi (130 km) south-east of Leeds. In 2021 it had a population of 86,138.
Scartho is a suburban village in the southern part of Grimsby, England, and in the unitary authority of North East Lincolnshire. Scartho's population is approximately 11,000. Up until the end of the Second World War it was a village; subsequent post-war expansion on the greenfield areas between Scartho and Grimsby has resulted in the village becoming an outer suburb. Its population has increased through recent urban developments such as Scartho Top.

Laceby is a village and civil parish in North East Lincolnshire, England. It is situated on the A46 road, just outside the western boundary of Grimsby. Laceby's population at the 2001 Census was 2,886, increasing to 3,259 at the 2011 Census. The village is noted for its parish church, parts of which date to the 12th century.
West Marsh is an area located in the northern part of Grimsby, North East Lincolnshire, England, and is close to Grimsby town centre. Its northern and eastern boundaries are formed by the Alexandra Dock. At its western edge is the Pyewipe industrial area, and at the south the railway line and Cromwell Road. West Marsh is split centrally by the southeast–northwest flow of the River Freshney. West Marsh is a ward of the North East Lincolnshire Unitary Council with a population taken at the 2011 census of 7,754.

Great Coates is a village and civil parish in North East Lincolnshire, England. It is to the north-west and adjoins the Grimsby urban area, and is served by Great Coates railway station.
Scartho Top is a development of houses in the south Grimsby area of North East Lincolnshire, England. The idea for such a development appeared in the Grimsby local plan towards the end of the 1960s, although construction did not start until the mid-1990s. The aim is to eventually build 2,100 houses in an area of 169 acres (0.68 km2), with a population of 7,000. A further 40-plus acres has been designated as open space. There are plans to have a separate community with village shops, a school and possibly a public house, in the next few years. Phase one of the project provided over 500 houses in the northern part of the development. Construction company Redrow is in the process of building 315 houses while Linden Homes is constructing 170.
The River Freshney is a river in the English county of North East Lincolnshire. The town of Grimsby stands on its banks. It rises from at least four springs on the edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds, although local folklore and oral tradition has it springing from Welbeck Hill. Originally it entered the tidal Humber estuary at Pyewipe, north west of Grimsby, but has been re-routed and now supplies Grimsby Docks. There was an existing haven within the borough of Grimsby but this suffered greatly with silting problems so in 1669 landowners agreed to the diversion of the Freshney through the town to the haven to provide fresh water and improve the flow. It is believed the work was completed in the very early 18th century.
