Little Dawley, formerly known as Dawley Parva, [1] is a village in the Telford and Wrekin borough in Shropshire, England. [2] It forms part of the Dawley Hamlets civil parish alongside Aqueduct, Doseley, Horsehay, Lightmoor and Spring Village. [3]

History

The villages history is intertwined with the nearby town of Dawley, having grown around the town and its development. [4] It was historically one half of the town, known as Dawley Parva before being renamed to Little Dawley. Despite its proximity to the town, it is separate as a civil parish from Dawley. [5]

Amenities

The village is primarily a mix of residential, industrial and commercial. The main village centre is located on Holly Road.

War memorial

The war memorial plaques from the redundant St Luke's Church, Doeseley, were moved to a new parish war memorial erected in 1999 at Holly Road, Little Dawley. [6] [7] [8] [9]

Transport

The village has bus services connecting it to Telford, Madeley, Dawley and Sutton Hill. [10] The nearest railway stations are both Telford Central and Shifnal. The Telford Steam Railway also operate nearby at Horsehay and Dawley, Spring Village and Lawley Village.

Horsehay and Dawley railway station is a heritage railway station in the town of Dawley and village of Horsehay in the Telford and Wrekin borough of Shropshire, England. The station was opened in 1859, closed in 1962, then reopened in 1976 as part of the Telford Steam Railway. Originally, the station was on the former Wellington and Severn Junction railway. It consisted of one platform with a signal box at the end of the platform controlling access to the goods yard. It is now the working base of the Telford Steam Railway.

Dawley Hamlets is a civil parish in the district of Telford and Wrekin, Shropshire, England. The parish contains 14 listed buildings that are recorded in the National Heritage List for England. All the listed buildings are designated at Grade II, the lowest of the three grades, which is applied to "buildings of national importance and special interest". The parish includes the settlements of Dawley, Doseley, and Horsehay. The listed buildings include houses and cottages, a farmhouse, a former canal aqueduct and bridge, a chapel, a church, offices, and a railway bridge.

The village is primarily residential and industrial.
