Malik or Malak is a gotra of Jats found in Pakistan and India. [1] The Malik Jats were originally called Ghatwal (or Gathwala [2] ); they later began calling themselves malik ("lord"). [3] They were zamindars (landowners) during the Mughal era. [4]
They are the largest group in northwest India, having various clans and more than 500 gotras. The main gotras are Maliks (Ghatwalla)
