The 10103 / 10104 Mandovi Express is a train which operates between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus and Madgaon Junction, the main railway station in Goa, and is currently operated by the Central Railway and the Konkan Railway. This train is named after the Mandovi River. This train is also colloquially known as "The Food Queen of Konkan Railways," by rail fans. [1]

Background

Before the establishment of the Konkan Railway, a train used to run between Vasco and Miraj as the Vasco-Miraj MG train. It was then diverted and made to run from Mumbai to Madgaon and renamed Mandovi Express by then Railway Minister Nitish Kumar. [2] [3] [4]

Service

It runs daily with a total travel time of 14 hours and 35 minutes. It has 18 stops on its route. It covers a distance of 580 kilometres (360 mi).

Routes

The Mandovi Express (10103 ) runs from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) with stoppages at- Dadar Central, Thane, Panvel Junction, Mangaon, Khed, Chiplun, Sangameshwar Road, Ratnagiri, Adavali, Rajapur Road, Vaibhavwadi Road, Kankavali, Sindhudurg, Kudal, Sawantwadi Road, Pernem, Thivim, Karmali, Madgaon Junction

Once it reaches Madgaon Junction, it rests for the day and then originate as 10104 Mandovi express the next day at Madgaon (Margao) and ends at CSMT; it will take the same stoppage route.

The Mandovi Express (10104) originates daily from Madgaon and ends at CSMT. After arriving at CSMT, the train then Travels as 20111 KONKAN KANYA SF EXPRESS.(As it shares rakes with konkan Kanya SF express) (unconfirmed)

Locomotive

As the route is fully electrified, it is hauled by a Bhusawal Loco Shed based WAP-4 / WAG-5 or Kalyan Loco Shed based WAP-7 electric locomotive from end to end.

Incident

On 7 Oct 2013, Mandovi Express derailed at Khed which lies in Ratnagiri district. This incident happened when the train was running slowly and going towards Khed railway station, so no casualties reported. [5]

The Double Decker express was discontinued by railways due to less occupancy and substituted with a regular express equipped with LHB coachin November 2022.

Udupi railway station is a railway station in Udupi district, Karnataka. Its code is UD. It serves the pilgrims visiting famous Krishna Matha at Udupi and the university town of Manipal, which is 4 kilometres (2.5 mi) south from the station and Udupi. The station consists of two platforms. Most of the platform is not sheltered from the heavy rains that Udupi receives. The Konkan railway route in which trains are pulled by Diesel locomotives will now be powered by Electric locomotives after electrification of this route. Konkan railway conducted a trial run of Electric locomotives on 13 January 2020, Monday from Thokur railway station to Udupi railway station. The electric locomotive started from Thokur at 4 p.m. and reached Udupi at 6 p.m. On return journey the electric locomotive reached Thokur at 8 p.m.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Mumbai CSMT–Madgaon Tejas Express</span> Train in India

The 22119 / 22120 Mumbai CSMT–Madgaon Tejas Express is one of India's full-AC train fleet introduced by Indian Railways connecting Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus in Maharashtra and Madgaon Junction in Goa. It is currently being operated with 22119/22120 train numbers on five days a week basis but during monsoon season the train will run thrice a week. The train route was officially extended from Karmali to Madgaon Junction on 1st November 2022. This is the first Tejas express to be equipped with 2 vistadome coaches on each end.

It was expected to be inaugurated on 3 June 2023 but was delayed due to the 2023 Odisha train collision. This train was flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 27 June 2023 via video conference from Rani Kamalapati (Habibganj) railway station.
